What's Happening in

RE Classrooms?

Week 2 Term 2 2021

Over the last few weeks, Year 7 RE students have been learning about places sacred to Christians and adherents of other faiths. As part of this unit of work, students have researched and created presentations on the significance of sacred sites from Uluru, The Vatican and Lourdes to the Holy Rat Temple in India. Presentations followed the theme of a pilgrimage and students were asked to lead a group of pilgrims, metaphorically, around their sacred sites.

This week, students in 7.3RE presented their findings, teaching their peers about different world religions and how and where adherents express their faith. They set up their classroom to replicate that of a tour bus and drove to their sacred site, educating their peers along the way.

Below are some student reflections:

“In Year 7 Religion, we have been learning about various sacred sites and religions. We learnt that in Hinduism you must have good karma to lead a good next life on our visit to the Hindu sacred site”. Safiah and Faustina

On our visit at the Hindu Sacred Rat Temple we learnt that it is good luck for a rat to run over your feet as they contain the soul of the God Karni Mata”. Madeleine, Ayla and Saskia

We have been learning all about sacred places and different religions the past few weeks. We learned many different religions in many places on our trip and we have also learned about rituals, prayers at the Hindu Rat Temple”.  Ellie

“In Year 7 Religion, we have been doing a research task on sacred places in the world. My group researched Uluru. On our visit to Uluru we learnt that we must not touch the sacred rock, not even the littlest bit or it is very disrespectful to the traditional owners of the land” Hannah, Mikayla and Chalyce.

“In Year 7 Religion, we have been looking at sacred places. We have learnt about several different religions and their beliefs and practices. We learnt that there are several different pools near Uluru and that it is not ok to swim in all of the pools surrounding Uluru. We learnt this at the Aboriginal Sacred site.” Isabel and Sadie

“In Year 7 Religion we have been doing Aboriginal Spirituality. At our visit to the Aboriginal sacred site we learnt that the Aboriginal Dreaming stories go back millions of years”.
