A strong culture of teacher learning and collaboration is a hallmark of a successful school. The student-free day on Friday October 26 enabled our staff to spend a valuable day engaged in collaborative professional learning. The theme of the day was 'Unpacking our Future'.
With a focus on how we can equip our students to learn for the future, we began with discussion and planning around renewal to the Year 7&8 curriculum for 2020. We explored models of inquiry and investigative thinking across faculty areas, identifying commonalities and subject-specific pedagogy. This work was further informed by a thorough analysis of our longitudinal achievement, engagement and wellbeing data and student feedback.
We then drew this thinking together through the prism of the Department of Education's Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO), which we will use to help identify our strategic priorities, goals and actions for 2019-23. It was an intellectually stimulating, challenging and productive day which allowed us all time to share in some 'big picture' thinking and also to consider how that vision is reflected in our classrooms.
