Congratulations

Congratulations to Zara Nicholas who competed at the Athletics NSW Junior Championships last Friday and took home a Bronze Medal in the long jump.

A number of other students from BMGS also competed at this event and I look forward to acknowledging them in future newsletters.

Summer Finals

Last weekend saw a number of BMGS students compete in the summer sport finals. It was great to see a number of parents and friends turn up to support our teams. I was particularly impressed with the good sportsmanship displayed by all of our players whether or not they were on the winning team.

Please refer to the individual team reports from coaches for more detail on the outcome of these games.

Winter Sport Trials

This week there were a number of trials being held for our winter sports. It has been pleasing to see the large number of students who are keen to play. If you missed your trials then you need to see the relevant MIC for the sport you have chosen before the end of this week.

Hockey – Mrs Hyslop

Netball – Miss Wade / Miss Hall

Girls' Football – Mrs Anagnostopoulos

Boys' Football – Miss Stammer

Rugby – Mr Harrison

Cross Country Carnival

The BMGS Cross Country Carnival was held last Friday and this year participation increased across the board. Those students who have been selected in the BMGS team you will be notified via email. It is an expectation, if you are chosen to represent the School, that you will make yourself available for the day as it is the combined result that determines the success of the team.

Please come and see me in my office if you have any questions regarding upcoming sporting events.

Sport Reports:  Girls' Football, Touch Football and Basketball

CIS Girls' Football

In the first round of the NSWCIS Girl’s Football Competition, the Firsts played Thomas Hassall Anglican College. Thomas Hassall started strongly and we conceded straight from the whistle but quickly equaled the scores again, as Koko crossed the ball from the corner and Indigo finished with a header.

We continued to work together throughout the half and went into half time leading 4-1. In the second half, we battled through heat and fatigue, defending our lead and continuing to put pressure on their defence through our strong attack, with the final score being 6-2 our way. Credit to all the girls for giving their all for the full 80 minute game and hopefully we can carry our form into the next round against Loreto Normanhurst!

Touch Football - 13th March, 2021

Last weekend the Firsts travelled to Macquarie Uni to play Redlands in the Semi-Final. We started the game strongly, scoring two tries in quick succession and defending well, to maintain our 2-0 lead as we headed into half-time. The second half saw our team become quickly fatigued, playing in the heat with only two subs due to injuries.

While everyone continued to do the best they could and gave 110%, we conceded two tries and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. As a result of various ruling factors, Redlands then proceeded to the Grand Final that was held later that day. While the result didn’t go the way we wanted, everyone should be so proud of their efforts throughout the game and the entirety of the season – to even make it to the semi-final in our first year of Division 1 is an achievement in itself. Thanks to all the time and effort that Mr Hoffmann has invested into this team over the past few years, we have all been able to grow so much both as a team and individual players and we are all really grateful for that. I will miss playing with this team every week but I’m sure they will continue to make us Year 12s proud next season!

Basketball - 13th March, 2021

The Girls’ Open C played St Andrews’ Cathedral School in their final round match up at Barker College. St Andrews’ were a confident outfit and put our girls to the test. The girls should be proud of their efforts as they fought hard throughout the match, against the top team of the competition. The team walked away as competition Runners-Up.

We also had five teams play Grand Final matches at Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre. The Boys’ First V and 14s Blue teams played well in patches but ultimately could not overcome St Stanislaus College and Oakhill College respectively.

The 13s Blue team showed grit and determination throughout their game against Oakhill College, overcoming early deficits to be within striking distance in the final minutes. The game finished with a nail-biting last 30 seconds, where Oakhill claimed the final 1-point lead and held on to the final buzzer.

The Girls’ Junior B had a slow start in their game against Redlands, with the lead changing hands throughout the first half. After halftime, the team came out focused and broke away, holding onto the lead to finish the game as Undefeated Premiers.

The Boys’ 15s Blue played Oakhill College, a team they played the previous week. It was set up as a high intensity game, and our boys were up to the challenge. The team played a controlled game, working as a team on defence to ensure they held on to an early lead. The boys finished the game as undefeated Premiers.
