Performing Arts

Welcome back, it has been so great to be back on site and be able to complete practical activities with our performing arts classes. As a team we have wanted to give our students as much time with hands on activities as we know this is something they have missed in remote learning.

In our Music classes students have been continued in their learning of rhythm by working in a drum circle with the rest of their class. These drum circles not only help with keeping in time, but also teach students how to work as a team and listen out for when the rhythm changes. I have been extremely impressed by how our students have returned from remote learning managing to put their theory knowledge into action.

In our Drama classes students have been able to work in a group to start scripting a small performance. Students did a lot of work in remote learning with designing their storyboards for a scripted scene. Back now in the classroom students have started to rehearse these scenes that they will perform to their class in a couple of weeks. We are all looking forward seeing them.

Our Dance classes are also tracking well with students working on an assignment that focuses on their country of origin and what dance comes from there and how it influences their culture. Students have been engaged in this learning and surprised by how important dancing can be not only for enjoyment but to also tell a story.

It has been wonderful to be back in our creative spaces and have them come alive again with what our students have been creating and sharing with each other. Once again I want to say how proud we all are of how our students have engaged with the arts this year and are excited to see how these programs continue to develop.
