Bicycle travel

It is great to see so many students travelling to school by bike. Students are asked to keep themselves and others safe by ensuring that they:

  • Always wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter.
  • Use the bike racks provided.  If the racks in the quadrangle are full, students need to use the racks adjacent the gymnasium.  Locking bikes to fences or gates is a hazard.
  • Walk their bikes when inside the school grounds.

Students must ensure their bikes are locked in the bike racks only which are located near the gym and in front of the wood technology room. Bikes left against fences or in other places will be removed which may include cutting locks as they block emergency vehicle access.

Mobile phones

Please be reminded that students may bring a mobile phone to school. However, while at school (either in the buildings or outside on the grounds,) at any time prior to the end of the school day phones must be switched off and locked securely in a locker.

After the end of the school day (after 3.07pm), students may access their phones as long as you are not in the school building.

Uniforms

Even though the end of the year is rapidly approaching, it remains important for all students wear the correct uniform.

As we head into summer, the Glen Eira College design hats are an important item for students to have in their bags. Hats and caps of any other style will be confiscated by staff.

A number of students have returned to school with elements of their uniform requiring attention. Nails must be of a reasonable length to participate in the curriculum safely.  Students who choose to have fake nails can only do so if they are short and of neutral colour. Long nails are a safety issue and will be addressed by year level coordinators. Makeup and coloured nail polish are not part of the uniform and must not be worn. Natural coloured foundation with SPF is the only permissible makeup.

Students should not wear jewellery to school other than a watch and a max of 2 pairs of studs or sleepers in the ears only.

Socks must be plain black with no logos and must cover the ankles.

A plain white t-shirt is permissible under the school shirt. Any plain white t-shirt (i.e. no logos or designs) must be worn as an undershirt only and must not show below the sleeve or below the hemline.

Similarly, please be reminded that all dresses and skirts should be of an appropriate length - not shorter than 5cm above the knee. The college dress may only be worn with black socks. The college skirt may be worn with either tights or black socks but not both.
