Maths Talent Quest

The Maths Association of Victoria have announced the prize winners of the 2020 Maths Talent Quest with Harshitha Meenakshisundaram and Nina Gibbs of 8B being awarded a High Distinction.

Harshitha and Nina’s investigative project was called ‘Once in a Blue Moon?’. They investigated the mathematical and geometric relationship between the Moon, Earth and Sun as well as the Moon’s cultural impact on ancient calendars.

The judges said that investigations that received High Distinction had in-depth investigative processes with clear indications of the mathematics involved at a level above expectation. 

All projects were ranked on Originality, Mathematical Content, Communication and Presentation, with Harshitha and Nina’s project being ranked High in all of these criteria.

Along with a certificate of High Distinction, Harshitha and Nina received a $50 prize voucher. Congratulations, Harshitha and Nina.
