Learning back in our Outdoor Learning Space

It is so wonderful to be back outside in our Outdoor Learning Space.  Our Year 1/2 students have been busy clearing garden beds, planting, collecting snails and welcoming our chickens back to school during their investigation time.

Last week, we were fortunate to spend extra time outside in our Science class where we looked for bugs, planted seeds, feed our chickens and listened to a wonderful story about planting beans, read by Miss Frazer.

Here are a collection of photos taken by our students of their peers and some thoughtful reflections by students Lucia and Sofia .

'We have new chooks and they are all grown up.  In the garden we are growing basil that we can have as a healthy snack one day.  And please, can you not litter?  The litter we have can fill a whole bucket.  And please care or people in the playground.' - Lucia

' Some eggs are really nice but there was a egg that was really big.  We thought it was a baby chick but no!  It is just a big egg and if we wash it, it will be wonderful.' - Sofia

Introducing.....

Back in March, three chicks were introduced to our school community.  With our return to onsite learning, they too have come back to school.

So, we introduce to you our new feather friends - Cutie, Snow and Midnight.

Happy, healthy habitats

The plants in our frog bog are thriving and we enjoy the sights of many  water bugs calling our frog bog home.  We are yet to 'see' a frog but are certain they are hiding among the reeds and beautiful indigenous water plants.  The following photos demonstrate its amazing growth over the past year.

Remembrance Day Poppies

In Autumn 2019, a group of Year 5/6 boys planted some humble Remembrance Poppies seedlings.  We enjoyed a display of poppies that November and followed them with a plot of sunflowers and then daffodils.

When online remote learning began, we were unable to tend to our garden and had to let nature take over.  Thankfully, our remembrance day poppies self seeded and rain and sun kept them growing.

We now enjoy this spectacular display.  Lest we forget.
