Physical Education

What a wonderful start we’ve had welcoming everyone back to Newlands this term. I have very much enjoyed playing familiar games with our F/1 students as they settle back into life at school. They have enjoyed participating in a range of gross motor activities with their friends and are always keen to show off their new skills. I’m always impressed with the care and consideration they show for one another.

The year 2/3 students have started a soccer unit. During home learning they worked on some of these skills. Activities have been set up for students to practise passing, dribbling and shooting goals with their friends. It has been fantastic to see the students encouraging each other for their persistence while working on these skills.

Our 4/5/6s started the term off with a new version of an old favourite, ‘Capture The Cone’. This involved two teams competing to steal cones while wearing Oztag belts. Students discussed and used so many different strategies while playing the game. I must say the competition was fierce and I was impressed with the teamwork I saw.
