Visual Arts

We have had a wonderful fortnight back in the art room! It has been so lovely to see all the students back and enjoying using all the resources again!

Last week, all year levels enjoyed Art Play! This was a session for the students to reacquaint themselves with the room and to have a play with lots of media. Choices included – painting, drawing, charcoal, oil pastel, colour wash, reading art books, collage or construction. Students worked individually or in small groups of their choosing. It was a calming and creative week, with lots of brilliant ideas flowing.

This week saw the beginning of Book Week activities! These will continue for most of the term. F/1s are working with When Billy Was A Dog by Kirsty Murray. We have begun making torn paper collages. Students had to manipulate paper using only their hands (ie no scissors!). We experimented with different shapes and will put them all together next week. After this, we will make some 3D art work!

2/3s are working with Goodbye House, Hello House by Margaret Wild. This week, we are working on making houses out of cardboard. Students worked individually or in pairs to create a house (or building) of their own design. Next week, we will embellish them using a variety of techniques such as binding with wool to create texture and form.

4/5/6s are working with the Book Week theme for 2020 – Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. Students are creating a 3D creature out of their choice of materials. Some of the ideas so far are just brilliant! We have papier mache, sewing, construction, Magiclay (air drying modelling paste), building with corrugated cardboard and a whole range of ideas swimming around the Art Room this term! I’m so excited to see what these artists come up with!
