Music

F/1

The children have been continuing to work on the hilarious Shel Silverstein poem "Dry the dishes". We started this during remote learning and some of the responses were absolute crackers. Students incorporated expression and movement:

... while others decided to turn it into a song:

When we returned to face to face learning, the poem became a whole class instrumental and movement activity!

Without recorder and singing, we've had to go right back to basics. Luckily, one of the songs we had been working on earlier in the year was still ripe to explore with instrumental activities. Reina Carolina (otherwise known as Queen Caroline) was brought out of the mothballs and turned into an activity using marimbas AND ukuleles. Students have started to learn the chord "G" and are playing this along with the song. I'll have some great videos to show you in the next newsletter.

Last week the students discussed in class the sorts of activities that they would like to cover instead of the original band / singing tasks. Some of the responses included improvisation, listening activities, and instrumental tasks. Many indicated that they quite liked the remote learning activities that were a bit different to what we normally cover in Music. I was particularly pleased by some of the video responses to the lyrics activity I posted in the last week of remote learning. Check this one out!

This week we used Blue Monday (also a song from remote learning) as a starting point for exploring improvisation and instrumental skills. This is what it looks like at the end of the lesson!
