Secondary Year 11

Melbourne City Experience

Last week 32 Year 11 students and seven staff had a two-night, three-day stay at the CYC’s City Camp, situated in Collins Street.  This venue is a fully-refurbished 1910 heritage-listed building located in the heart of Melbourne.  Our group was allocated two secure sections, each with a common room to hang out in.

Making the most of our central camp location, the group walked and used public transport to access the various activities.  With a focus on becoming more familiar with our city and also building independence, resilience and teamwork skills, the itinerary included:

  • Eating out at restaurants;
  • Ice skating;
  • Galactic Circus and Bowling or Laser Tag;
  • An ‘Amazing Race’ around the city, using the City Circle Tram;
  • The Vikings exhibit at the Museum;
  • Eureka Tower
  • Movies;
  • An Escape Room challenge; and
  • Drinks at the Ice Bar (mocktails only, of course!)

The group travelled back to Concord School in peak hour on public transport.  The three days were jam-packed with activities, everybody tried something new, and we walked almost 35kms – no wonder we all slept well each night!
