Survive and Shine

On Wednesday the Year 12 class participated in their first Survive and Shine Day – a program designed to guide students through their final year of schooling. The students tackled the high ropes course at Forest Adventures, then spent some time at the Busselton foreshore reflecting on the years gone by and planning for the exciting and challenging year ahead. It was great to see the students support and encourage one another both at the high ropes course but also when sharing as a group during the reflection.

One of the reflection activities asks the students to come up with an analogy reflecting how their high ropes experience relates to their life and their Year 12 journey. Here are some of the responses:

Morgan:  Sometimes in life you need support from those around you to do hard things, other times, the accomplishment really comes from stretching yourself and doing it by yourself.

Emily: Year 12 is going to be hard work and it will be worth it in the end, but the real joy will be in the people who are around you. It can be easy to focus on the task at hand and forget about the amazing things that are around you, remember to stop and enjoy the last year you have.

Jess: When you feel like you can’t rely on your faith in God, just always know that once you actually lean on Him and trust in Him, you can always come out with VICTORY (just like trusting in the equipment)

Street Chaplain Visit

Over the course of this year, the College's engagement with the broader community and local organisations is an area where large growth will be seen.  To kick things off, Friday morning's Secondary House class got to hear about the street chaplaincy program, and the difference it makes to the community.  Since the engagement of the street chaplain volunteers, negative behaviours have dropped enormously.

To support this program, on February 24th, a team of students will be set up at the IGA supermarket, making beanies that will be given to chaplains to distribute on their nights of engagement.  The intent of the stall will also be to provide information on both the street chaplain program, as well as being advocates for the College.  Other community groups, such as the Busselton Hospice, are already in discussions with Mr van der Tang about how we can support and aid them in their work.

It's exciting!

Year 2 Learning

The Busselton Year 2 class have been exploring what makes a good learner.

Miss H provided the following pictures, and said 'We asked some experts. Miss Nolan said it was being a good listener & curious. Mr. Maynard, Elijah (Head Boy) and Taesha (Head Girl) said it was being collaborative & listening to everyone's ideas.'

It's sure to be a productive and inspiring year for these kids with advice like that.
