Enrolments for 2023

We are open for 2023 enrolments and forms can be collected at the Office or found on our website. If you have a child turning 5 by April 30, 2023, please complete an enrolment form and bring in a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunisation record and we will process the enrolment. It helps us enormously with planning, if we have a clear indication of enrolments as early as possible.

2023 Foundation Students Transistion Program

Foundation 2023 Transition Program 'Explore the World of Music' is happening on Thursday 16th June, 2.30pm - 3.30pm. We would prefer to have all children enrolled by this transition date.

Please note that the 3rd session for our Foundation Transition Program will only be for enrolled 2023 Foundation Students.

Long Weekend

A reminder that this Monday June 13th is the Queen’s Birthday holiday which is a pupil free day at school. This is a great chance for families to recharge the batteries and hopefully get over any lingering illness communities are currently experiencing.

Early Dismissal Reminder

The school term will end on Friday June 24th with a final assembly on the back stage area at 2.10pm followed by a 2.30pm finish. Please make sure your children are picked up on time. Term 3 starts back on Monday July 11th.

Zone Cross Country

Good luck to Maddy D who will be competing in the Zone Cross Country next week.

Staffing

Thank you to Josh Bourke our leading teacher who has had to lead the school whilst I was in hospital for back surgery this week. I will be back along with Mrs Ward who will be returning from leave next week, so it was a particularly busy week for Josh and the staff and we thank them for keeping the children on track during a particularly busy time.

New Tutor

We have appointed another tutor who will be working in the junior area of the school on Numeracy starting in Term 3. Mrs Libby McConchie is a very experienced teacher coming from Tulliallan Primary School and will add some great expertise in the junior school. She joins Morgan Humphris who is doing some fantastic work as a tutor in the senior school numeracy area.

Curriculum Day/Parent Teacher Interviews

We will conduct our Student/Parent and Teacher Conferences for Years F to 6 Wednesday 22nd June. These meetings are to communicate student achievement and discuss any individual learning needs. This is a Curriculum Day at school – school is not open for lessons, however students are welcome to attend their conference with their parents/carers.

The interviews will be 10 mins in duration. Please note - staff make every effort to stick to designated times and therefore they may need to finish the interview when the ten minutes is lapsed or other parents are waiting. All bookings this year will be made online via the Sentral Parent Portal. Please contact the office if you are having any issues booking.

Bookings have opened this week. Bookings can be made any time until 5.00pm the day before the interviews.

The Importance of Play

Positive and purposeful play promotes healthy bodies and healthy brains. There are numerous research studies linking active play and academic success. Furthermore, exercise increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain and this is important for reducing stress or anxiety.

Kids NEED to play in order to develop in every way possible to be their best! Play allows children to master their fears, try new roles and expand their imagination and worldviews Play helps kids develop social skills, including conflict resolution skills and self-advocacy skills Play also helps kids develop patience, a sense of belonging and essential communication skills.

There will be days where the children will be kept inside due to extreme weather conditions such as too hot or too wet and cold. As Principal I make that call on a daily basis based on the conditions of the day. During the cold months please send children with coats and warm gear to wear. Please do not send sick children to school as it spreads germs to other children very quickly and we end up with a lot of children away.

How to Reduce the Spread of Flu

Many of the steps put in place to prevent the risk of COVID-19 will also prevent the risk of the flu.

It is most important that students or staff with any symptoms of the flu stay home until symptoms pass and take a COVID-19 test on the days that symptoms are apparent.

If a student develops symptoms at school such as fever, arrangements for the student’s family will be to collect them.

Reminder for students:

wash and sanitise their hands regularly
avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
cover their nose and mouth when they cough or sneeze
get tested for COVID-19 if they feel unwell
get vaccinated for flu and COVID-19.

Face masks are available in all schools and can be worn by any staff or students who wish to do so, including those who are medically at risk.

Flu vaccinations

Free Flu vaccinations can be booked through participating GPs and pharmacies, many of which can also provide COVID-19 vaccinations.
Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.
Some people are more at risk of complications from flu and are eligible for free vaccination as part of the National Immunisation Program.

Rapid Antigen Tests

Rapid Antigen Tests have been distributed to our families and will continue to be until the end of the term. Children who are identified as close contacts can be at school but must wear a mask. Students who display or report symptoms will be sent home so we can maintain an environment that is as safe as possible.

School Values

The children will continue working closely together through the coming winter months. This is a great time to reinforce our school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COURTESY and CO-OPERATION with all children. Filling someone’s bucket of kindness should be a priority for all children and adults. Helping others is to be encouraged by everyone and can be done in a variety of ways. It is great to see our Year 6 children looking after the younger children out in the yard.
