THRIVE & BERRY STREET TRAINING

We commenced the term with a full day of professional development based on the Berry Street Education Model. This is an evidenced based program to build CONSISTENT, PREDICTABLE ROUTINES at school, in every classroom. Our semester one goal was to understand how a person’s body shows and responds to stress. We have built routines into classrooms such as Welcoming Circles and Ready to Learn Plans. Teachers have been guiding the thinking of our students to help them regulate their emotions/mindset and be ready to learn.  We recognise that students are individuals and require a range of strategies to help them get ready to learn.

Our semester 2 goals are built around strengthening relationships with our students. You will see that some of these strategies have already been occurring at our school (welcoming smiles, greetings by name, encouragements, discussions about their interests). By building trusted relationships with our students we can better help to coach them to self regulate and have a strong focus on their learning. We are also running a number of social skill groups throughout the year levels to assist students with skills required to have healthy friendships skills.

Bella's warm woofy welcome!

This week Bella was very pleased to welcome some more new students to LPPS.  Here she is pictured below welcoming Thorne.

Our THRIVE expected behaviours are being revisited to remind students of behaviours we do expect from them as respectful citizens of LPPS. When they make poor choices, we have a Whole School Behaviour Management process which is followed. It’s pleasing to see that 99% of students make great choices every day—that’s what makes our school so wonderful. When students are having challenges, the wellbeing team works with them and parents to put in necessary supports.

Breakfast Club Baskets continue to be popular for our students that miss out on breakfast. The Department provides school with milk and fruit and we have some volunteer bakers making breakfast muffins with other ingredients. Thank you to Coles for sponsoring the cost of our other ingredients such as butter, flour and eggs. Our Health Ambassadors and their teacher mentors are managing the program with great enthusiasm and diligence. Goodies are available at 830, as we try to support students who may not have had any breakfast.

First Aid Staff have been involved in 2 nights of first aid training to upgrade our qualifications. This is an important whole staff initiative as it enables us to have many trained personnel available to help in the front office, on excursions and on camps. The training includes CPR and anaphylaxis training.

Smile Squad Currently we are hoping that Smile Squad (Dental service) will start examinations around August 8. Thank you for your consent form.

Incursion for Anti Bullying. Our THRIVE value for this term is based on RELATING WELL. This incorporates our Respectful relationships curriculum and also our anti bullying curriculum. To celebrate this, we have the Brainstorm presenters coming out to run a number of shows with our school on August 19. (More details to come)
