From the Principal

Welcome Back

I would like to officially welcome everyone back to the beginning of Term 3. We have had a massive first week and there has been a very positive buzz around the school. We look forward to working with you closely across Term 3 and we hope you take the opportunity at different times, to actively involve yourselves in your child's learning.

Curriculum Day

On Monday at our curriculum day, staff were involved in the second day of Berry St training. The Berry St Educational Model, is a framework that builds the expertise of teachers to best support student wellbeing and learning. Our school wellbeing team will oversee the implementation of this work back in teacher's classrooms.

School Review

On Tuesday we had our Validation Day for our school review. A school review panel has been established to undertake this work. The panel consists of:

  1. School Principal- Richard
  2. Principal Team- Deb and Kym
  3. SEIL (Senior Leader)- Stan Szuty
  4. School Reviewer- Rob Miller
  5. Andrew Haley- Dromana PS Principal
  6. Linda Buckeridge- Hillsmeade PS Prin
  7. Mel Schmidt- School Council President

On this day they conducted classroom observations and evaluations of our current school strategic plan.

Next week, the panel will conduct two days of fieldwork. This will consist of meetings with teachers, students and parents. I have sent an RSVP for two parent focus group sessions which will be held next Wednesday and Thursday morning at 9.15am in the school library. The RSVP link is below. It would great to have large number of parents and carers attend one of these sessions, because the data collected will be used to direct the priorities in our new school strategic plan.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Bookings are now open in Sentral for our upcoming parent-teacher interviews. These will be held on Monday 25th July and Tuesday 26th July. The purpose of this 10 minute interview will be to discuss your child's Semester 1 report. There are also opportunities to meet with your child's specialist teachers as well.

Staffing

At the end of Term 2, Mr Luke Moran was the successful in being appointed into a Learning Specialist role at Tooradin Primary School, effective from the beginning of Term 3. This is a wonderful opportunity for Luke and I know he will do an amazing job in this position. It is a big loss for Langy Park PS, however it is also shows how successful we are as a school, to develop the leadership capacity of our staff.

Luke's replacement is Mr Jarrad Rose. He will move from his role as our Indonesian teacher into this full time classroom role. We are currently reviewing how we will replace Jarrad in the Indonesian role and will keep you updated with this.

2023 Foundation Enrolments

We had another highly successful school tour on Thursday night, with a large number of prospective families attending. The feedback from these families were highly positive and they were impressed with our facilities, grounds and classrooms.

Just a reminder to our current school families whose child is starting Foundation next year to get your enrolment handed into our school office. We are now at the stage of the year where I need to start finalising and confirming numbers for this year.

Student Celebration

I always love to be able to celebrate and recognise the personal achievements of our students. At the end of last term, one of our Grade 6 students, Ava Scott, was a member of the Australian Ballet's production of Harlequinade. This is a massive achievement for someone so young. I would like to congratulate Ava on this achievement. Below she has written a short report about her experience.

'In Term Two I was lucky enough to audition and be given a children's role in The Australian Ballet production of 'Harlequinade'. I was given the role of a "Little Harlequin". The other roles were Pierrot/Pierrette, Crispine and Polichinelles. I had a lot of rehearsals at the Australian Ballet Centre in the city. I had 6 performances and the 2nd cast had 5. I was lucky my cast got to do opening night, closing night and the live stream (meaning my friends and family could watch online!) I was so excited when Ms Pendlebury came to watch me. It was such an exciting experience and I'm so proud of myself and happy I said yes!'

I would like to thank everyone for making the first week, such a positive one. Please continue to build positive relationships with your child's teacher. They are all doing a sensational job to make sure your child receives the best possible learning experiences.

Take care everyone,

Richard
