Parent Gatherings - Expressions of Interest

Purpose

Throughout primary school, our children develop self-confidence and resilience by taking on challenges and extending their skills through participation in academic, social, sport and creative activities. As parents we can of course encourage our kids by supporting them to develop their extra-curricular interests and make the most of the fantastic opportunities available to all students at Syndal South.

Another very effective way to encourage our kids is to provide an example through our own behaviour – to challenge ourselves to try new activities and learn new skills. Accepting a challenge ourselves can also help us better understand how our kids might be feeling, as they tackle new activities as a beginner on a regular basis, with all the uncertainty and vulnerability that can involve.

So – are you ready to stand as a role model for your kids, and try something new? Perhaps you could share a skill or passion of your own and guide a group of Syndal parents in an activity?

Ideas

The Syndal South Parents’ Association is seeking expressions of interest:

What sort of activities would you be interested in taking on as a challenge!

Some creative activities – such as:

  • beginners painting activity
  • starting up a parents’ choir/ukulele group
  • writing for the Monash Library Short Story competition
  • book group

Would you be inspired to try a new physical activity?

  • Sport
  • Dancing
  • Yoga
  • Group exercise
  • Self defence
  • Community walks?

Perhaps you’d like to share something from your culture?

  • Cooking classes
  • Dance classes
  • Language classes

Please stay tuned! We will send out a survey link on Compass and the Rocket Newsletter later this month for all of us to share ideas and express interests for our parents gathering project.

Bring us your ideas, and we’ll do our best to support you and make it happen.

PA Footy Tipping

As we head to Round 18, only one point separates first & second place. Cuddy on 104, has led for most of the season, but may be feeling slightly nervous with several members attempting to chase him down. Nobody selected all 9 winners last week, with a couple of upsets, so this weeks Jackpot jumps to $20. Just a reminder to anyone who has yet to pay up, you may do so by dropping into the school office, who will happily accept your cash or Eftpos.  Good Luck!
