Indigenous Culture Program
Semester One
Indigenous Culture Program
During semester one students have been learning about First Nations culture and history through the DCC Indigenous Culture program and developed understanding through a series of activities, reading of books, viewing of programs, artworks and class discussions. Preps have been introduced to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and their meanings, Year 1 and 2 students learnt about First Nations people’s connection to country, Year 3 and 4 explored the Indigenous natives gardens found in our school, Year 5 and 6 produced anti-racism posters to display in rooms and year 7 students learnt about inspirational people such as Eddie Mabo who fought for indigenous rights.
Special events such as the anniversary of the 1967 referendum were commemorated by students creating outdoor sculptures of the word YES, students produced a large hand mural to recognise how we can grow through reconciliation and class based Sorry Day group murals to display in individual classrooms.
The photos included in this page shows students engaged with their Indigenous Culture activities throughout the semester.
