Principal's Report

Term Two school holidays

Term Two has continued to bring challenges for students, staff and schools across the state. The effects of the COVID pandemic and the arrival of winter colds and flus have continued to disrupt our lives in some way or another. Despite all of this and a severe shortage of staff across the state, the school has remained open (consigning remote learning to the past) and students have continued to grow and achieve in their learning.

Our students have shown enormous resilience during this time, adapting to regular changes to their routines but remaining focused on their school work. The holidays are an important opportunity for students to take a break from school, and for our senior students to be sure they are ready for upcoming learning and course requirements. Be sure that you take time to relax, attend to your school commitments and consider how our College STARR Values can continue to guide you in your development as a kind and respected person.

We have also appreciated the continued support from our parents and carers this term. Not all parents take a break over the school vacation and they look to their older children to be helpful and to take on additional responsibilities to support the family. Our STARR Values are as relevant at home as they are at school.

The greatest credit for our success this term however goes to our staff who have continued to go above and beyond in their work every single day.  When they volunteer to teach additional classes (sometimes multiple classes per day), or listen to and support students wth friendship difficulties, when they get home in the afternoon tired from a day of teaching or supporting a hundred different young people, then sit down to marking and planning, (and this list goes on) our staff continue to show their determined commitment to seeing our students grow in their learning and wellbeing.

School holidays are when teachers and support staff take a huge breath, put aside school work for a short time, relax and recharge. On behalf of the community, thank you to the staff of Melton Secondary College for your enormous effort and generosity. You are champions!
