U16 NRL State Final

Melton Secondary College students participated in the Under 16’s NRL 9 a-side State Finals after successfully qualifying at the Western regionals earlier in the Term. The Women’s team got off to a great start beating Craigieburn to win their way through to the State Final. Despite being down on troops due to injuries the girls showed tremendous heart and pride in the school playing the majority of the game with only 8 people narrowly losing 10-0. They finished 2nd in the state.

The Boys team got off to a slow start narrowly losing to Narre Warren South P-12 College 14-12 in wet conditions and a 14 all draw with cross town rivals Staughton College they had some comprehensive wins over Craigieburn Secondary College and Westall Secondary College to reach the final. Coming up against Narre Warren South P-12 College who had defeated us in the pool games the boys showed an enormous effort to work as a team and on the back of some physical defence and exciting ball play including 3 runaway tries they took out the State Title 28-6. All students represented the school in fantastic fashion, demonstrating great sportsmanship. A massive thanks and shout out to Ms Jocelyn Gilbert for driving the bus and extra support on the day.

U18 State Final

On Thursday the 9th of June students from Melton Secondary College participated in the NRL VIC 9 a-side state finals.

The under 18’s Girls team were down on players but managed to put in an amazing effort beating Tarneit 26-12 in the first game. In the second team substitutions from the Tarneit side led to a 12-4 victory and due to a number of injuries our girls couldn’t participate in a 3rd game. They showed enormous heart and some wonderful skill to compete in both games and were very deserving of the State Title.

Our boys team started the day with a hard-fought contest against Tarneit, but with a nice balance of flair and structure they proved too strong for Tarneit winning their first game 26-14. They played Narre Warren in the final pool match and demonstrated some bruising defence to keep the opposition scoreless and qualify for the final. Against Tarneit in the State Final the boys team played with only 2 subs but proved too strong for their rivals running out winners and State Champions 28 points to 10.

All students representing MSC played with excellent sportsmanship and in good spirits. NRL VIC will be attending MSC to present the school with the state title later in the year.
