Library News

We may sit in our library and yet be in all quarters of the earth.
– John Lubbock

On our return to school, it has been lovely to see the library full of smiling students at recess and lunchtime, a place where holiday tales are exchanged, and students are seen reading the new books featured in our library.

NEW BOOKS

By Sea & Stars

The Story of the First Fleet by Trent Dalton

“By Sea & Stars is the bloody, brutal, and enthralling story of the epic voyage that led to the founding of our nation, told from the perspective of those who took part in it willingly or unwillingly.

This is no dry history of dates and names but a spellbinding encounter with real people -from terrified nine-year-old chimney sweep and convict John Hudson to conscientious Lieutenant Ralph Clark, pining after his wife and son, to the brave and determined Captain-General Arthur Phillip, the brightest star of the British Navy. Here are their stories - of death, duty, glory, lust, violence, escape, mutiny - and a great southern land.”

Heartstopper

Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. A young adult LGBTQ + graphic novel series about life, love, and everything that happens in between - for fans of THE ART OF BEING NORMAL, Holly Bourne and LOVE, SIMON.

Teens, Charlie and Nick, are at the same school, but they've never met... until one day when they're made to sit together. They quickly become friends, and soon Charlie is falling hard for Nick, even though he doesn't think he has a chance.

But love works in surprising ways, and Nick is more interested in Charlie than either of them realised. HEARTSTOPPER is about love, friendship, loyalty, and mental illness. It encompasses all the small stories of Nick and Charlie's lives that together make up something larger, which speaks to all of us.

Written and illustrated by British author Alice Oseman, these books are also the subject of the 2022 television series on Netflix.

Premiers’ Reading Challenge

Well done to our students who have been busy reading and logging books online over the break for the Premiers’ Reading Challenge. There are less than 50 days left of the challenge, so keep up the great work! A reminder, if you are looking for book recommendations speak to your Communicate and Relate teacher, Niamh in the library or Ms Aimee Shattock.

It is wonderful to see our students embrace reading and the Challenge is on until 2nd September. All students who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers and go into a draw to win prizes. To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information, visit www.education.vic.gov.au/prc
