JUNE 2022

NEWSLETTER ENTRY FOR JUNE  2022

It was great to meet students and families at the Wurun Information Evening on Wednesday night.  If you didn’t receive the ‘Where to Now’ brochure, there is a digital copy available on the VCAA website:  https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/studentguides/where-to-now/Pages/Index.aspx

The booklet has explanations about the new VCE VM and VPC.

Year 9

Our year 9s commenced planning for the Real Industry Job Interview (RIJI) program. This will take place over 4 more weeks in term three where students will prepare and submit job applications for a day of mock job interviews in October.

Our Year 9 Morrisby interviews are almost complete!  We have one more day of external interviews booked in July.   Students still have time to complete their profiles but are unlikely to have an external interview beyond July.  The response from students has been very positive.

Year 10s

Many year 10s have sourced work experience placements, however we still have quite a few who are looking for valuable opportunities.  Work experience will take place from 1-12 August.

We’re seeking help from our community to source work experience placement opportunities for our year 10 students this year.  Does your workplace host work experience students? Any opportunity will be welcome, but specifics include healthcare, engineering, any trade, creative and media industries. Drop us an email if you are able to help out (rhonda.cadman@education.vic.gov.au).

Trade Taster

Students from year 9, 10, 11 and 12 took part in an experience/trade taster day at Kangan TAFE automotive in Docklands.  Hands on activities included tyre changing, panel work and automotive electrics.  This aims to showcase the range of careers in the automotive industry.

Newsletter #8

We issued our 8th Wurun Careers newsletter this term.  You can access the newsletter here: https://wuruncareers.com/important-information/school-newsletters

Tertiary Open Days

Students from year 9 are encouraged to make time to attend tertiary open days.  They are a great opportunity to get onto a campus and have a look around and learn more about pathways and specific courses at your preferred institution.

A comprehensive list of Open Days is available on the VTAC website: https://www.vtac.edu.au/opendays.html
