Dear Families

I am so pleased to share with you some wonderful photos from our school community Winter Solstice festival. It was a fantastic night for P-2 families in both our Steiner and main program classrooms. The classroom teachers jointly with their class carers created a wonderful celebratory yet solemn feel to this important observation on our school calendar.

There was plenty of food and conversation which added to a lovely community feel. In a post lock down world, it was a joy to be back at a school event face to face.

The Year 3-6 families enjoyed observing the solstice throughout the week. Our upper primary students enjoyed the later evening festivities with their class groups. The onsite and offsite festivities provided families with the flexibility to be at more than one event. The feedback I got from many families was that it felt more relaxed this year.

It was truly a wonderful way to mark the end of the term. I’d like to thank all of you for your continued support of our school programs and I'd like to wish you all a safe and restful winter break.

I'll see all of the students back on Monday July 11th.

Primary Chinese

With the changes of seasons this term, the Year 5 and 6 students have been learning about seasons in Chinese, and were introduced to China's 24 solar terms, understanding how agriculture and the movement of the sun formed the Chinese calendar and seasons. Students also had the opportunity to create a display that showcases the four seasons as well as the vocabulary related to the seasons. Students demonstrated a lot of creativity and beautiful teamwork, resourcefulness and good time management. I have been very impressed with the quality of work that the students have shown.

Students in Year 3 and 4 had the opportunity to learn about the Very Hungry Caterpillar in Chinese, focusing on the use of numbers, days of the week, and key words. They then created a Big Book, with every student in charge of a single page of the story. After the Big Book was created, mini storybooks were printed for each student to take home. Students were so proud of their work and had a great time going through each page, seeing how their friends interpreted the different pages.

Preps Favourite Dancing Style is Techno

In Performing Arts Prep students have been exploring Dance. They have learned the difference between various dance styles. This included Irish Dancing, Belly Dancing, Tap dancing, Flamingo, and many more. The class especially asked me to dance to Techno music. They become very excited once they start to dance to this style of dancing.
