News From the Principal

Congratulations

We welcome Vaylen Ashley to the Raywood Community and the World. Vaylen is a sister for our prep student, Lucian and for Laxford (who will commence Preps in 2023 and visits us each Friday. Congratulations to Vaylen's mum (Lisa) and Dad (Julian). We have reserved a Prep place for Vaylen for 2028!

Covid Safe Measures

Thank you so much to the students and staff who have quickly adapted to wearing masks whilst indoors. We have our air purifiers operating in each room as well as regular handwashing and sanitising. Despite our best efforts we have had some recent positive cases from students after becoming unwell or taking a precautionary RAT test. We will continue to send home a box of RAT tests each Monday and ask that families regularly test their child and especially so if they are unwell. A reminder that students are permitted at school even if someone else in the house has tested positive, provided they complete 5 negative RAT tests over a 7 day period and wear a mask at all times. We do not want ill students to come to school but we also do not want students to miss school unnecessarily as their learning is paramount. Please contact Lisa if you have any questions or concerns about this.

Thank you

How wonderful it was to be surprised by the friends of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Raywood with a lovely staff morning tea. We are very grateful to Audrey Fellini and her fellow church members for thinking of us.

Raywood Railway Station Opening

We have a new date for the Official Opening and Celebrations for the Raywood Railway Station. The new date is Sunday August 7th. Celebrations commence at 10am with loads of activities and giveaways, which are all free. Our school will host the sausage sizzle on the day.

Our Year Six Leaders have been invited to hold the ribbon as part of the official ceremony, a very big honour. This occurs at 10.25am and we ask them to be there by 10am so that they can get a rundown on what their role will be and how to go about it.

We hope to see as many of our students, families and school community there as possible.

Cluster Athletics

Students in Years 4-6 will participate in the Small Schools Cluster Athletics on Friday August 12th. The venue for these athletics is the Bendigo Athletics Centre.

Students are expected to come to school as they normally would and we will leave just after 9am. We have organised transport by private car. We will return in time for the afternoon bus run and home time. Students require their own drink bottle (filled), snacks and lunch.

The junior room students will remain at school and no doubt have heaps of fun be large and in charge on that day!

Whole School Excursion

Last week we had an exciting and very educational visit to Quantum Science Centre in Melbourne. Head over to the Teaching and Learning page on this newsletter to find out more about what each grade did whilst there.

Division Football

On Tuesday, Caleb, Jacob and Clancy (replacing Mason) were selected to join the Campaspe Cluster Football team in the Sandhurst Division Football Carnival at Kennington Primary School. This team was comprised of students from Raywood, Colbinabbin, Goornong, Nanneella, OLSH and Elmore Primary School. We were placed in Division 4 and competed against the likes of Camp Hill, Kangaroo Flat and other amalgamated school groups. Despite the treacherous weather, the day was a great success. Having only lost one game out of 7 for the day, we qualified for the grand final. Unfortunately, the exhausted legs got the better of us at the big dance and Camp Hill Primary went away as the championship winners. A big thanks to the parents involved and to Craig Simpson from OLSH who was able to assist me with very short notice. The kids had a great day and were pumped to be bringing another trophy back to school. Mr Collins (coach).

Breakfast Club

Every Friday starting at 8.40am we host Breakfast Club. Last week we had a special treat of spaghetti jaffles in addition to cereal, toast and hot milo. I heard a rumor that pancakes are possibly on the menu for tomorrow!  It is so lovely being able to share breakfast together and also provides our students with practice at serving themselves, buttering toast (a challenge for many) and doing their dishes (not their favourite part)!

School Council News
