Meet and Greet

Next Wednesday is our Meet and Greet afternoon. As we have done in the past up at Scotsburn, we would like to make this event a relaxed community afternoon, with lots of opportunity to mingle and enjoy some time at the campus. We would love when not booked into an interview time, for families to play and even bring a picnic to enjoy. We will set up a bbq with some sausages for sale, as well as some eggs available for purchase. Hopefully the weather is kind to us and we can enjoy a lovely afternoon together.

If you are yet to book a time with your child’s teacher and would like to, please check Compass for available times.

Class Term Newsletters

This week all families will receive their class newsletters for Term 1. We will send out both a hard copy of these as well as via Compass. Make sure to have a good read of these and keep somewhere handy, as they contain lots of important information, including key learning themes across the term.

Scotsburn Parent Committee 2023

In the next few weeks, the Scotsburn campus will be getting our 2023 parent committee up and running. This will be a really exciting and important addition to the campus this year, providing greater opportunities for a collaborative approach to the running and organisation of the campus. One of our first agenda items will be getting some planning underway for the upcoming FETE.

If you would still like to be part of the parents committee however you have yet to let us know, please email Jarrod at jarrod.morgan@education.vic.gov.au

We will be contacting committee members in the coming weeks to organise our first catch up.

Choosing “Kind”

At our Scotsburn assembly last Friday, we spent some time discussing our new Buninyong Primary School Values of Respectful, Responsible and Kind, as well as our new positive behaviour matrix which outlines behaviours that we want to see in various school spaces. At Scotsburn we have decided to dig a bit deeper into the value of “Kind” to start the year. We have been discussing the notion in class of “Choosing Kind” and how we can all make conscious decisions to choose kind. Our first lot of Scotsburn Awards to be presented at our next assembly, will have a focus on students who have made great efforts to best display kindness around the school.

FETE

The school FETE will come up on us rather quickly, with it being held on Friday the 3rd of March. Over the next couple of weeks, classes will be deciding on stall ideas, and getting some planning underway. We will then be looking for parent helpers to assist with organisation and running of the stalls. More information to come next week.

Prep Interviews

Just a reminder that Preps have Wednesdays off for the month of February. This time off is to ensure that children have the chance to recharge mid-week as they settle into school. On these Wednesdays, each Prep student needs to come in for a mandated Prep Interview that takes approximately 45 minutes for an English and Numeracy assessment to gauge where each student’s point of need is. Please refer to your interview time on Compass.  This interview only requires your child to be present.

Additionally, if I can assist with any questions, please feel free to send us an email at Anastasia.anderson@education.vic.gov.au  or Kirsty.bull@education.vic.gov.au and we will get back to you.

Prep Buddy Program

With our large Grade 6 cohort at Scotsburn this year, we have decided to return to a more formal prep buddy program in 2023. This will be a really important feature of a successful transition for our new preps, as well as provide a wonderful opportunity for our Grade 6 students to further develop their mentoring and leadership skills. Our Scotsburn Buddies for 2023 are below:

Grade 6 Leadership Roles

A massive feature of Scotsburn in 2023 will be the role that our Grade 6 students play the day to day running of the campus. It will be a real asset for us as a campus across the year to have a large number of leaders, with them all having an important role to fill.

During the last few weeks of 2022, our Grade 6 students completed application letters for their chosen leadership roles, including skills, experience and other reasons as to why they would make great candidates for the role. Students who applied for a Campus Leader role also participated in a formal interview, which was a wonderful learning experience for all involved.

As an added bonus this year, our four Grade 5 girls will form our Morning Announcements Team, providing a great opportunity to develop their leadership skills prior to moving into Grade 6 next year.

Grade 6 Scotsburn Leadership roles for 2023 are below:

Arrival Time

8:45am is an ideal time to arrive at school, as the classrooms and playground are not supervised until then. If you are regularly requiring your child to be dropped off prior to this time, just a reminder that we do have before school care available at the Buninyong Campus. Children are driven to the Scotsburn campus before 9:00am.

All children should be ready to start the day at 9am. If your child is absent on any given day, please ensure that you contact the Buninyong Primary School office to inform them.

Items Brought to School

Just a reminder that toys do not need to be brought into school. We have lots of toys and resources at our lunch club and in the classrooms which students can play with and enjoy. Personal items brought to school can be lost and damaged and teachers can not guarantee that these possessions will be kept safe.

Bus Travellers

If your son/daughter is a bus traveller and you haven’t already done so, please contact Mel in the office at the Buninyong Campus to complete the required forms. A reminder that if travel plans change on any certain day, please call the Scotsburn Campus or come and see the bus duty teacher before collecting your child. This will save any confusion when doing the bus roll.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

SC1 got off to a brilliant start. We have spent the last week getting to know each other, our school values as well as our class routines. This is an important component of our ‘Learning to Learn’ program where we spend time setting ourselves up for success and the year ahead.

Last week, students brought home their reader pouches with some take-home readers. We really encourage all families to share this important connection in reading between home and school.

This Thursday 9tth February, the Ballarat Courier will be coming to take a Prep photo for the paper.

If you have any questions or if we can help in any way, please feel free to pop in and see us or email us.

Have a great week.

Ana and Kirsty

SC2 Learning Snapshot

SC2 have made a tremendous start to Term 1. Having already begun solidifying some great routines, students in SC2 have also been practising the values of being Respectful, Responsible and Kind. Students have been able to identify their peers for how they are displaying these values within the learning spaces, in the yard and within the community and it is fantastic to see that they have been able to identify these actions and communicate them to their peers in celebration.

As a team, SC2 have been able to formulate morning and afternoon routines, expectations for reading, a class statement, rewards charts and much more as they have worked together to take ownership of their own learning throughout our ‘learning to learn’ program in weeks two and three.

Throughout the implementation of these routines, we have had plenty of fun already this year with lots of short breaks, ice breaker games and being able to put our values into practice when playing some team orientated games.

Thank you to so many families who have already welcomed me into the Scotsburn community. It has been a thrill so far and I am looking forward to the many opportunities that we embark on as a community throughout 2023.

Feel free to email or pop in with any queries, concerns or celebrations. My door is always open to you.

Mitch.

SC3 Learning Snapshot

SC3 has made an extremely smooth and productive start to 2023. Our focus on “Learning to Learn” has honed in on what makes us great learners, how we can support each other, and ensuring that we promote individuality and bravery. We have spent quite a bit of time looking at our school values, and from that we are currently in the process of developing our “Class Trademarks”, which will be how we want to operate and be known as in 2023.

We have also had heaps of fun developing our class culture whilst playing some “Minute to Win It” games. It has been so much fun!

As always, if you have any questions or would like to catch up, feel free to pop in and see me.

STEM off to a flyer!

On Monday all students at Scotsburn had their first taste of STEM withMs Middlin. Students were looking at physics, locomotion and movement, and it was brilliant to see students return to class with such excitement and enthusiasm. These sessions will be a feature of the students’ learning across the year. Thanks Ms Middlin for all your hard work in getting the new program up and running.
