PFA  News

How to get involved with the PFA in 2023!

We had a great first meeting for the year last night, and really enjoyed welcoming lots of new faces to the room.  Membership is free and open to any school parent or supporter.  Please complete the 2023 PFA membership registration form on Qkr if you are interested in receiving information from the PFA, such as meeting agenda and minutes (it will also entitle you to vote at meetings).

We have a stack of exciting initiatives on the cards for 2023, and we’re always open to new suggestions too!

We need lots of hands on deck to make them a success - and volunteering to help out is a great way to bring fun events to life for the students, connect with other parents, and to get a glimpse into primary school life!

You can see some of our Term 1 volunteering opportunities, and sign up for those that suit you, here - https://signup.com/go/rfQFDNp (it's super easy, and you will not need to register an account or keep a password on signup.com).  These opportunities are constantly updated as new activities are organised, so please check back regularly.

We understand that everyone’s lives are busy and appreciate whatever time and support parents are able to offer.

You can contact the PFA anytime with questions or suggestions via pfa@carnegieps.vic.edu.au

Class Representatives

Each year the PFA builds a network of class reps - one or two for each class throughout the school.  The PFA Class Reps are instrumental to helping achieve one of the PFA’s key aims - to provide a strong connection across the school and individual grades. The role is really what you make of it and generally representatives don’t find it is time consuming (say around 10 mins per week, less in the older years).

The overarching goal is to help forge a sense of community, and to strengthen connections amongst families across each grade and year level.

Some of the activities usually undertaken include:

  • Sharing parent contact details across families in the class (these will be sent to you)
  • Setting up a WhatsApp group, email distribution list or similar channel for communicating with families in your class
  • Communicating reminders about school and PFA events and important correspondence (these will be provided to you by the PFA in a Class Reps WhatsApp group so it’s a simple copy and paste job!)
  • Supporting the classroom teacher(s), and acting as a liaison between them and families when required
  • Organising social functions for the class / year level (e.g. parent coffee catch ups or dinners, park play dates, etc)
  • Organising a collection and a card, and purchasing a gift, for the teacher for year-end (entirely optional of course, and can be streamlined through the use of platforms like grouptogether.comkudoboard.com etc)
  • Welcoming new families where possible and updating them with information (e.g. class contact lists, communication about the school, etc.)

You can sign up to be a Rep for your child(ren)’s class at https://signup.com/go/TasXNYA

CPS Swimming Caps

The much loved Grade 3 - 6 House Swimming Carnival is coming up next week!  We have a small number of swimming caps still available for purchase in house colours.

They can be ordered through Qkr up until next Monday, 13th February, and will be delivered to your child’s classroom on Tuesday 14th February.

Remember to update your Qkr Profile(s)

It is really important that at the beginning of each year you update your child(ren)’s profile in Qkr to reflect their new year level and class.  This will ensure lunch orders and other items reach them safely and on time.  You will be prompted to do this the first time you login into the app this year.  More information on how to set up / use Qkr can be found on the school website, at https://www.carnegieps.vic.edu.au/uploaded_files/media/qkr_setup_guide_carnegie_ps_23_feb_2021.pdf
