Maintenance and Care

Parents are responsible for ensuring that their child:

  • Treats the instrument with care and respect
  • Regularly cleans their instrument
  • Keeps their instrument  stored in a dry space away from changes in temperature (such as in cars or near windows)
  • Only transports their instrument to and from the school for rehearsal purposes, unless they are performing for an event off-site.
  • Brings any damage or maintenance issue to the attention of their Instrumental Tutor immediately.
  • Carries out basic care of the instrument according to the instructions sent home that outline specific care for their instrument.

Practice

Students are expected to practice at home in between lessons and rehearsals. It is ideal to create a routine by setting a specific time and space (without distraction) to practice every day at home.  Students should set small goals and achieve something each day.

Recommended length of practice sessions are:

  • Years 3 to 6 - 20 minutes daily

Performance:

  • Performance is an important part of learning a musical instrument.
  • As students progress through the program there will be opportunities for them to  perform as part of their ensemble or as soloists.
  • Parents will be notified of details related to these performances.
