Why being a 'quitter' is a virtue through Lent

Lent is a time when many Christians choose to give up something in order to honor God, and to focus on spiritual growth. But why should you give something up for Lent? What are the benefits?

Giving up something for Lent is a great way to practice self-reflection. By focusing on what we are giving up, we are able to take a step back from our everyday lives and evaluate our actions and motivations. We can think about what matters most to us and how we can better live our lives according to our faith.

Giving up something for Lent can also help us cultivate gratitude. When we give up something that we enjoy makes us appreciate it even more when we are able to partake of it again. We become more conscious of the good things in life that we often take for granted.

If you’re considering giving something up for Lent, here are a few tips. First, be realistic. Don’t set goals that are too ambitious or difficult to achieve. Second, set small, achievable goals. For example, instead of giving up sugar completely, try reducing your sugar intake by half. Third, make sure you have a plan in place for how you will go about giving up your chosen item or activity.

Giving something up for Lent is a meaningful way to honour God and observe the Lenten season. It can be a great opportunity for spiritual growth and reflection, and can help us cultivate humility, self-reflection, and gratitude. So why not give something up for Lent? You may be surprised by the benefits!
