Senior Student Conference 2023

Encouraging Student Voice, Leadership and Agency

What a great start to the year!

Our annual Senior School Conference was held in the first week of school, with key guest speakers and team-building workshops held for all of our Year 6 students.  This event encourages our senior students to see themselves as role models, and gives them some information and inspiration to set challenging goals for themselves.  It is a fun event, capped off with a sausage sizzle lunch and a staff v students basketball match (the staff's unbeaten run continues!).

Reach Foundation

This year we were lucky enough to have the Reach Foundation join us to provide workshops to our students around the importance of teamwork, behaviours that enhance teamwork and behaviours that inhibit teamwork.  Our students enjoyed games and discussions as they demonstrated these behaviours within the group.

Cardinia Shire Youth Services

Youth Services workers presented a workshop around the support available for young people in our community.  They spoke of where support and guidance are available and how to access this.  Our students went through a process of identifying people in their lives who they can go to for help and also learnt to see the positive strengths in themselves.

Mike Spears

Mike Spears is a highlight of each year's Student Conference!  His enthusiastic manner and his positive message engage all of our students and encourages them to set goals, aim high and work hard to reach their full potential.  An ex-NBA basketballer who has travelled the world and met lots of well-known celebrities (yes, he's even met Michael Jordan!), Mike uses basketball to spread his message and encourage kids to be active and to never give up!

Students vs. Teachers Basketball Game

Our annual staff v students basketball game, with Mike Spears as the referee, was full of action from the very start!  Although the students were tough competition, they were no match for our superstar staff members who remain unbeaten in this challenge!
