Around the College

Year 7 Music
Our Year 7 cohort recently started their school day with rather out of ordinary activity – an incursion from Brass Bedlam.
It was such a joyous event and experience to witness these young Nazarenes indulge in this musical and historic activity. Students had the opportunity to engage in numerous interactive experiences, including acting and storytelling.
At Nazareth College, we commit ourselves to providing students with a learning experience that enhances their personality as well as the ability to become known and effective member of the wider Nazareth community. The Fabulous Fab forms one of these countless opportunities the College provides for students interact with.
The incursion was an opportunity to encourage Year 7s to sign for four FREE trial instrumental lessons in a nominated orchestral instrument, including Brass. Interested Year 7 students can sign up via LEARN AN INSTRUMENT VOUCHER available from Performing Arts Office or by email music@nazareth.vic.edu.au
I use this chance convey my sincere thanks to Ms Emilia Roberts – Transition Coordinator, Ms Tatyana Derevyanko – Instrumental Music Coordinator and all the Year 7 teachers who prepared and made this incursion and many others a success.
During Week 4 of Term 1, the Performing Arts Department will be putting on lunchtime concerts. These are students driven shows, where every talent across the performing arts is provided an exposure platform and engagement opportunity with wider community.

Vinnies News
Sign Up day
It was wonderful that so many students attended our sign-up session to be a Vinnie for 2023! It was great to see so many old faces returning for another year, volunteering their time, and working behind the scenes to make a difference in the lives of people less fortunate. It was also fantastic that so many Year 7’s, along with students from various year levels joining the group, with a total of 53 members.
We elected our Presidents last week, and it is with great pleasure that I announce Annie Shi (Year 12) as our 2023 President and Julie Hoang (Year 11) as the Vice President. Both students have been a member of the Vinnie team for several years, as well as being involved in broader activities within the school. They will do a magnificent job in leading the team this year.
Earthquake Appeal Fundraiser
We have all seen devastating images on television of the aftermath of the Earthquake affecting both Turkiye and Syria. This has prompted the Vinnie students to initiate their first fundraising event this year.
On Thursday, 2 March, the Vinnies, together with the VCE-VM students will be holding a casual dress day and sausage sizzle.
The cost of casual dress will be $3 (paid to the Pastoral teacher in Morning Pastoral) and sausages will be sold at lunchtime in the Northern Gardens area for $2 each. The correct change would be appreciated. All proceeds will go directly to the people in need.
Project Compassion
The start of Lent on Ash Wednesday ais also the start of Project Compassion. A donation box has been placed in every Pastoral classroom and we encourage ALL students to pop their spare change into it. My students worked out that if every student in the school donated $1 a week, for 6 weeks, each Pastoral group could potentially raise $162. You times that by 36 pastoral groups, as a school, we would raise approximately $6000!
Individually, it does not cost much, but collectively we can make a real difference. There is the challenge 😊
Easter Raffle
One of the most anticipated events of Term 1, is the Easter Raffle! Very soon, hampers will be created, and tickets will be on sale. Students will be able to purchase tickets from Vinnie students during Pastoral, recess, lunchtime and from the Resource Centre. Prices will be $1 a ticket or 5 tickets for $3. The winning tickets will be drawn at the end of Term 1. All money raised goes towards supporting the St Anthony’s Tutoring Program, which has been supported by Nazareth students for several years.
As they say, you have to be in it to win it! Last year, we had more than 50 prizes!

Mr Peter Nathan recently held a lesson outside for his Year 7 RE class. The students were introduced to the Peace Garden behind the Chapel and engaged in prayer and activities.
