Mathematics

We are very excited to continue the great developments in our Maths department with respect to how Mathematics is experienced in Stage 4 (Years 7 and 8). Traditionally in schools, it has been extremely difficult for one teacher to cater to the learning needs of 30 individual students. As a result, not every student has experienced success in Maths, with many students finding it particularly stressful or difficult. The Maths teaching team is working very hard to target the specific learning needs of each child, and there are a few things that will happen in the classroom that might be different from previous Maths experiences:

  • Class wide rich learning tasks that aim to make each child excited and engaged in problem solving using the Maths skills they have developed, alongside their friends
  • Tailored mini-lessons rotated through smaller groups of students. Teachers can hone on specific mathematical topics with smaller groups of students who will benefit most from that lesson.
  • Each student will receive Maths content that they are ready to engage with. Their own Maths program is tailored to their individual capability level. This is supported by the class teacher so as to continue the development of learning skills and includes regular check-in tests and goal setting to frame the next step in the learning journey.
  • One-on-one teacher support and feedback. When students are "stuck" on a particular piece of Maths, their teacher will support and assist as needed.

This means that every student can experience success in Maths.

Parents / Carers Dashboard

Parents/carers will have full access to all of the work that their child completes using the Maths Pathway program. All parents/carers should have received a handout from their child which details how to log into the program. Once parents have logged in, they can click the Parents and Carers button to access the  Parents and Carers Portal.

The features include a:

  • detailed list of all of the modules that have been completed
  • snapshot of their progress during their recent test cycle which includes the key indicators of growth, effort and accuracy
  • Curriculum Grid, which shows the students current understanding of the mathematical content in the curriculum

Thank you to parents for your continued support. Any questions should be directed to the  classroom teacher via email.
