Principals Message

Reading at Home
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We at Trafalgar Primary School want to make sure your child can read well because it's really important. When children can read, they can do better in school, enjoy life more and be more successful in society. That's why we are learning about the 'Science of Reading,' which is what research says about how children learn to read.
To help your child read better, we are making some changes to the Take Home readers. Your child will get up to three books to read each week, which they can change once a week. These books will be a mix of hard copies and online books. Some books will help your child learn to read better, some will help them read faster, and some will be interesting to them.
Please make sure to listen to your child read or talk to them about what they are reading at least five times a week. Record what they read in their diary and have them bring it to school. Teachers will check the diary once a week.
Your child will also be able to access the Decodable Readers Australia’s Online Library at home. Thank you for helping your child learn.

School Council Update
School Council nominations will be closed today, 24th Feburary .
Council is responsible for determining the policy framework for our school and provides an excellent opportunity for parents to participate in planning for the future of our young people. In the last Principal’s Message we called for nominations for three parent representatives and three Department of Education representatives. Nominations for school council are now closed.
Thank you to Cynthia Coulson and Jade Farmer who have nominated as parent representatives and Rick White has nominated as DET representative. There being less nominations received than vacancies to be filled, we look forward to electing these new members to school council at the next meeting on the 22nd March 2023.
There is still an opening for a parent representative to fill a vacated position. If you are interested please contact our principal Cameron Nicholls.
