Diocesan Swimming Carnival

On Friday 24th February, the Armidale Diocesan Primary Swimming Carnival was held at Gunnedah pool. Two hundred and ninety children from the Catholic Primary Schools around our area competed at the carnival. We had many children break their personal best times, big smiles and fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day.

We had a few students break the Armidale Diocesan Swimming records:

St Xavier's Gunnedah Senior Girls relay team (Molly Ramien, Matilda Denovan, Eugenie Goddard & Alexis Whitton) 2:13.39; the previous record was 2:21.73

Alexis Whitton broke the 12 yrs 50m Freestyle with 30.54; the previous record was 31.03

Josh Spinks broke the 11 yrs 50m Butterfly with 35.04; the previous record was 35.97

Carnivals like this don't just happen without a village of helpers. A special mention to;

St Xavier’s Gunnedah for hosting the carnival, especially the support from Katie Goddard and Leanne Herden.

Gunnedah Swimming Club for their organisation and support with the timekeeping and setting up for the day. As well as Tamworth and Narrabri Swim Club for their assistance with timing.

St Mary’s College Gunnedah and Bean about Coffee for keeping us all fed and hydrated.

All Primary School Sport Coordinators for running your school carnivals so efficiently and nominating the students to participate today.

Our Officials: Alban Brunnemeyer, Brian Coombes, Lisa Steele, Louise Whitton and Fiona Knapman and the amazing team of women on the recording table.

Students who placed first, second, or third in each individual event and first or second in the relay event will now head to Sydney Aquatic Centre in Homebush to compete in the NSWCPS Swimming Championships later this term.
