Prayer:

Good and loving God,

source of every grace and blessing,

as we prepare for this Lenten season,

we place ourselves before you,

for you are filled with beauty and light

and you care deeply for each one of us.

May your light enfold us.

May your Spirit guide us.

May your grace abound in us.

We make this prayer through

Christ our Lord.

Amen

Combined Schools Ash Wednesday & Opening School Mass

Last week, St Mary’s College and St Xavier’s Primary School staff and students gathered together in the SXG Hall to celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass. It was a wonderful celebration and was so nice to be able to come together for such an important day in our church’s year. During his homily, Fr Abmar spoke about how we are encouraged to turn away from temptation this Lent by turning to the Gospel and the Eucharist instead.

Lent - Project Compassion

Each Lent, we are called to engage in fasting, almsgiving (donating to the poor) and prayer across the 40-day period. In Week 5, Project Compassion Mission Boxes were distributed to each family to promote the almsgiving aspect of our Lenten promise. Closer to the end of the term, we will send a reminder home to return your family’s Mission Box so we can send all donations to Caritas. All donations, no matter how great or small they may seem, are very much appreciated.

To support the almsgiving at home, classes are organising their own Lenten fundraiser to be conducted at school. We will keep you informed of these events via class newsletters, Compass and/or our St Xavier’s Facebook page.
