Student Leadership

On the 17th of August, the social justice team led by Bethany Lapsley held a Social Justice Snack Pack (SJP) fundraiser on the Green for Timor Leste.
The idea was a play of on the current food craze that is HSP (halal snack pack), which has been widely popular among teens and adults in 2016. The social justice snack pack was is made up of a delicious base of hot chips, layered with lamb and/or chicken pieces and finished with a variety of popular sauces. The meal was supplied to us by the Manna staff who were kind enough to give up their lunch to cook the fresh chips ready to serve.
It's fair to say the fundraiser was one of the most successful ones of the year! Students loved the fresh new alternative and it was a highly anticipated event in the school calendar. Members of SLG and Social Justice team worked together in creating a production line supplying students with the snack pack of their choice.
The fundraiser was a success from the moment it opened, as students lined up for the tasty treat during the entire lunchtime. All the SJPs were sold out by the end of lunch with many students purchasing seconds and even thirds. The whole fundraiser was a great opportunity for all students to get involved in helping not only our own but the global community, offering students both awareness into international injustices and giving them the resources needed to offer a helping hand. SJPs are not only a fun alternative to lunch but encourage community spirit, kindness and sharing in raising money for the Timorese people. The money raised will go towards improving their standard of living including better educational resources, housing and welfare schemes.
Thank you to all those involved as well as those who donated to this amazing cause. Your donations will go a long way in helping create a better future of the Timorese.
