Cumberland Gang Show

Live Laugh Smile

by Claire Jackson, Year 10

Cumberland Gang Show is such a fun and magical experience for the cast and also for the audience! This is my third year in the Show and I'm really enjoying myself. At Gang Show, we practice for six months before we perform at the Riverside Theatre at Parramatta in front of hundreds!  Gang Show is made up of around 180 cast members who are all members of  The Scouts Association or Guides Australia, who sing, dance and act for eight shows in the July school holidays. I would really like it if you came and supported us. I promise you will get something out of it!

From the Producer

This year we have a spectacular show planned to inspire and entertain our audience.  It’s called “Live, Laugh, Smile” and it’s all about living for the moment, laughing at the memories we make every day, putting a smile on your face and believing in yourself!  Can’t get more inspiring that that!

There is a huge diversity of new material, mixed with popular songs you already know.  There is a stunning opening number called (you guessed it) “Live, Laugh, Smile”. Then we have six musical mini-stories including our Bollywood tribute, an unbelievable underwater sequence with blacklight UV special effects, a fun story about leprechauns and the luck of the Irish, a crazy look at the classic western with plenty of wild west jokes, a takeoff of all the TV renovations shows called “What a Tool” and a really catchy sequence about Kids Today with some songs you’re just gonna love.

And if that's not enough, we have a really modern medley of contemporary popular songs which we’ve called “The Rooftop” and a heap of funny moments planned throughout the show including the infamous “Terrors Party” that will have you rolling in the aisles.  And just in case you were wondering, there is fabulous finale called “Shooting Star” which wraps up the “live, laugh, smile” theme of the show in spectacular fashion.

But the highlight of the show is when the younger cast get to perform their very own special song in the middle of the first act, called “Me and My Dog”.  We’re going to have a real dog on stage and some great video of kids playing with rescue dogs.  It will be awesome!

So, there you have it - it's a huge show!  A fabulous musical score, more laughs than you've had in a month of Sundays, catchy tunes that you'll be singing forever and an awe inspiring cast that can’t wait to show the audience what happens when they "Live Laugh & Smile".
