Enhanced Performance

Program- 2017

At Mount Eliza Secondary College we believe that many students have areas of strength, most of which are not recognised in SEAL and other advancement programs run in schools.

Our Enhanced Performance Program differs as it allows all highly capable students to be challenged regardless of their area of strength.  Year 6 students apply to be an EPP member providing evidence of their success and 'contract' to maintain high level performance in their nominated area.  Successful students can also be considered for a scholarship in their area of strength.

Student Leadership

College Captains - Lili Williams & Ryan Coppard

Mount Eliza Secondary College has always encouraged students to participate in leadership, giving them opportunities to develop their leadership skills and to provide a student voice within the school. This year is no different.

The school captains for 2017 are Lili Williams and Ryan Coppard. The captains will head a team of students who will work together throughout the year to act as representatives for their fellow students in continuing to maintain a healthy and positive learning environment. The leadership team is comprised of house captains, Mikki Green, Daniel House, Ryan Baker and Sarah Whyte. Their main goal is to lead their houses to victory in various sporting and academic events, encouraging students to participate and become involved in house activities. Rounding out our leadership team is our performing arts leader, Jessica Adams who with the performing arts teachers will be assisting in the upcoming production. There is also VCAL leader Sophie Beardmore, International leaders Kaidi Tan and Eunice Wang and myself, Alanna Jackson as communications leader. As leaders we are all responsible for keeping open lines of communication between the leadership team, teachers and the student body. Year level leaders this year are as followed; from year 11 - Heather Mackay, year 10 – Lauren Sexton, Lucaya Rich and Violetta Minzenmay, year 8 – Callum Mann, Poppy Rich, Carolyn Van Der Bijl and Lola Murchie. The year seven leaders are in the midst of submitting their interest for a leadership position.

In a recent interview with the school captains, Lili and Ryan were both asked what their leadership team is hoping to achieve this year. Their responses were as follows.

Ryan: ‘I hope that we can continue to follow the example of our amazing 2016 leaders and help make improvements around the college, ultimately improving school life for all students and teachers’

Lili: ‘I would like to improve the way students approach being at school and how they interact with others, making school a place not only to learn, but to become immersed in our community and the range of opportunities available to students.’

Being a part of the leadership team is an important role in the school community. We as a team think it is ‘important to be role models for other students’ and influence others to contribute to our school community through roles such as HPV, interschool sport, school production, lunch time activities and community events. As student leaders we are able to represent our college to the students, parents and wider community, promoting our school’s values.

Throughout the year, the leadership team will be responsible for organising school events such as assemblies, free dress days, sport days and collecting donations. We are always seeking improvement opportunities from students and teachers and endeavor to find ways to implement them. We are also involved in the wider community through a variety of public events such as the ANZAC day ceremony and various fundraisers.

In March, the whole leadership team will be attending a team building camp that aims to strength the relationships, communication and team work between the leaders. As a team we will be participating in a range of activities such as snorkeling, bike riding, walking and participating in activities aimed at promoting leadership skills and positive mental health.

We believe MESC is a very close-knit community, with dedicated teachers who work to get the best out of every student. We are proud that our school offers a variety of programs to support every student’s ambitions no matter how varied. Examples include VCAL (the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning), IDEEA Lab, Steiner Education, Hands on Learning, Personal Futures, and an International Exchange Program.

As communications leader, I will continue to keep everyone in the school community up to date with the current events that the student leadership team organise and participate in.
