Auditions for Ensemble Promotion, Friday September 13

Feedback and Feedforward Lead to Progress

Auditions for Concert Band, Jazz Band, String Ensembles and Orchestra will be taking place on Friday 13 September between 9.30 am and 12 noon.  We have a sign on sheet in the Performing Arts Office that will be collected on Wednesday September 11 at 3 pm.  Audition times will be posted Thursday morning for boys to check. While no places are guaranteed, auditions are a great chance for your child to seek feedback and discuss his progress within our Ensemble Program. Boys just need to bring along one prepared piece and also play through one small, unseen sight-reading excerpt. The audition process is a gentle one and a great experience for students.  Please also ensure the boys bring their music pass to the audition with them.

St Pius X College Father’s Day Breakfast a Celebration of Good Men

How Wonderful Life is, When Dads and Grandads are in the World

As teachers we are often asked what we love most about our jobs. The response usually goes along the lines of “I have always enjoyed working at St Pius X College, because the students are so nice.” It all makes sense now. After meeting many dads and grandparents at last Friday’s Father’s Day Breakfast we can see why the boys of this College turn out to be good men.  Their role models are humble, hard-working, have a sense of humour and most of all put love and service before personal wants and needs. It was fantastic to see so many Dads breaking through the rain into the Gym for coffee, bacon and eggs, stories, prayers and the gift of music.  As Liam Chang sang out, “I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind, that I put down in words … how wonderful life is, when Dads are in the world.”

Our sincere thanks to Mr Shane Cranney and his Guitar Ensembles for their warm and uplifting music. Congratulations to Liam Chang, Mr Steve Cummins and Ms Natalie Rawle for their rendition of Elton John’s “Your Song”. Thank you to the P&F Association for the generous catering of this College Celebration. To Oliver Tysoe, Mr Mulheron, Mr Couani and Mr James Donlevy, you did a great job of bringing our hearts and minds to reflect on the importance of fatherhood.

Pius X College Choristers Take to St Mary’s Cathedral

Discovering the Beauty of Mozart’s Requiem Mass

Last Friday 30 August 30 our boys joined students from Santa Sabina College, St Aloysius' College, Ignatius' College, Riverview, Loreto Kirribilli, St Clare’s College, Waverley and St Mary’s Cathedral School, to rehearse Mozart’s Requiem Mass.  Under the master guidance of renowned choral director, Thomas Wilson, our combined choristers refined their four-part choral singing and pronunciation of the Latin Mass.

Our students (41 in total) were exemplary in their behaviour, representing our College with dignity and finesse.  We will continue to learn the music in our weekly Choir rehearsals on Wednesdays at 7.30am. The next big Combined Choral rehearsal day will be on Thursday 24 October.  While it is expected that our Pius Choristers will take part in this amazing opportunity, all Pius Performing Arts students are encouraged to be involved. Please complete the attached permission note if you wish for your son to be involved in this extraordinary experience.

“Music is My Life Man”

Friday Afternoons at St Pius - aka School of Rock!

Every Friday after school our budding Rock Band Musicians have a chance to rehearse under the guidance of Mr Cummins and Ms Waters. Just like the Beatles or Cold Play, many a successful group started at school jamming with mates! If your son is keen to form a band with other Pius musicians and would like time and space to get loud, please see Ms Waters.
