Year 10 Reflection Day 3

Father's Day

It was a wonderful morning last Friday to not only eventually see rain, but to also enjoy the morning with many of the fathers and grandfathers of the College. We were all treated to a fine spread of coffee served with bacon and eggs complemented by the musical talent of the Performing Arts Department. Our guitar ensembles provided background music as fathers and sons gathered in the gymnasium to spend quality time together and a photo booth ensured that this time was captured for future memories.

A number of reflections were provided from not only a son’s perspective, but Mr James Donlevy gave an insight into Father's Day from a dad’s perspective. Perhaps the highlight of the morning was the enriching performance of Liam Chang (Year 10) who sang “Your Song” to all the significant males who made it to the College. It was a great start to the day and a fitting tribute to all the fathers of the College.

A special thanks goes to the P&F who cooked up a storm on the BBQ and served the many hungry men, and to Ms Waters, Ms Rawle, Mr Cummins and Mr Cranney who ensured that the musical accompaniment was professionally attended to.

Year 10 Reflection Day 3

Guest Speaker Glen Gerreyn from The Hopeful Institute

Year 10 wrapped up their three reflection days last Friday, hearing inspirational speaker Glen Gerreyn deliver his Day of Hope message.

The three Reflection Days this year have focused on the theme of Journey.   In Term 1 the students heard from legendary Socceroo Captain Paul Wade, on owning their journey and overcoming obstacles. In June they heard from Brett Hunt on the importance of relationships and the students' requirement to take responsibility and to have respect.  On Friday Glen inspired many of our Year 10 students to take ownership of their talents, to develop their abilities and to ruthlessly chase their goals.  Just as Jesus told the parable of the servant who wasted and hid his talent, Glen challenged Year 10 to work at making the most of their potential.

Illustrating his message from his own life’s challenges, Glen inspired our young  Pius men to take life head on and to follow their passion; to get up and make the most of what they have, to create a vision for themselves and to dream big as well as dream often.
