Prayer:  Give to One Another

In last Sunday’s Gospel from Luke (14:1,7-14) we are given the advice that when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the weak, the lame, and the blind.  Meals played an important role in the society in which Jesus lived.

Jesus warns guests to wait before taking their places at the table lest they be asked to move if someone more important arrives. This is more than just a lesson about dinner etiquette. It is advice on how to find your true place in the Kingdom of God. Jesus advises hosts not to invite people who would be expected to repay them to dinner but to invite those who could not repay:  the poor, the weak, the lame, and the blind. This is where real blessings can be found.

It was perhaps this advice that Blessed Edmund Rice took to his own heart when he coined his well known phrase to “Give to the poor in handfuls”.  For this reason we pray:

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.

He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.

May we follow his example of faith and generosity.

Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund

As we seek to live lives of love and service.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

St Pius X College Sports Colour Awards

Next Monday 9 September the College will hold its Annual Colour Awards in the Concourse at 11 am. The College has an extensive program of cocurricula activities and  this includes a significant range of Sporting, Performing Arts and various cultural activities. I congratulate all the Award winners and a full list of Awardees for this major school occasion will be in next week's Woodchatta.

Happy Father's Day

Last Thursday the Junior School Father/Son Sports Afternoon went ahead in difficult conditions but we had record numbers in attendance.  On Friday morning the Annual Father's Day Breakfast was a huge event and a great morning was had by all.  We thank all the fathers and grandfathers for coming along to these events.

Below is the link to the photos for the Breakfast and photos of the Junior School Sporting Afternoon can be found on the Junior School page of this newsletter.

Seeking Board Members for St Pius X College Chatswood

Gender Equity and the St Pius X College Board

Our College Board has an excellent mix of female and male Board members and as an equal opportunity employer we are committed to an equally gender balanced staff.

With our recent recruitment for future Board members I encourage women and men to consider an Expression of Interest.  Involvement in the Board is a rewarding experience with like-minded adults who seek to continue the enhancement of our wonderful school community.

An information evening will be held on Tuesday 17 September 2019 at 7.00pm in the College Boardroom.  Anyone interested in attending to learn more is invited to register by phoning Christine Jennings on 9411 4733 or emailing on admin@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au  Att: Christine Jennings.  On receiving your response, further material will be provided to you to prepare for the meeting.
