2021 Sacred Heart Results

PAT, NAPLAN and PM Benchmark Data

In 2021, the students at Sacred Heart School have achieved outstanding academic results in both internal and external standardised assessments. Our 2021 AIP Goal to improve Reading Comprehension has seen us adopt a targeted intervention approach for all students across the school, utilising the expertise of our teaching staff to ensure every child is receiving the targeted support they need to grow and improve academically.

PM Benchmarks

PM Benchmark levels provide us with targets for reading. These targets assist us with levels of achievement that are appropriate for a student's age. As of Week 6 Term 4, 83% of students at Sacred Heart have reached or exceeded their expected PM Reading Level for the end of the year. This exceeds the Catholic School Office aspiration goal of 80% of all students to reach their expected PM level. We will keep working through to the end of the year to ensure that every child is given the best opportunity to reach their end of year expected reading level.

In 2021, our AIP goal was to ensure every child at Sacred Heart achieved at least one year's worth of growth in these assessments when compared with their first assessment of the year. As the year comes to a close, students will be assessed once more for their end of year reading level. Below is a summary of our student growth in 2021 so far;

Percentage of students already achieved one year's growth in PM Benchmarks: 64%

Percentage achieved or within two levels of goal: 94%

NAPLAN (Year 3 and Year 5)

The 2021 NAPLAN results demonstrate an excellent level of achievement by our students when compared to National and State averages. The key assessments of Reading, Writing and Numeracy show that no student at Sacred Heart is below the national minimum standard, and in each assessment at least half of our students are above this level by placing in the top two bands. Our focus on ensuring quality teaching in the literacy and numeracy blocks has benefited our students and they have been rewarded with outstanding results.

PAT Reading and PAT Maths

These assessments are completed every 12 months, usually in Term 4, to provide a 12 month improvement snapshot for our students. Students in Year 1 to Year 6 complete this assessment. In 2021, these results were outstanding, with our students demonstrating significant improvement over the past 12 months. The stanine score system is broken up into three categories - top 3, middle 3 and bottom 3 stanines. In both the PAT Reading and PAT Maths assessments, the percentage of our students achieving in the top 3 stanine scores was higher than the expected norm and lower in the bottom 3 stanines. These results demonstrate the very high level of achievement of the students at Sacred Heart in these two assessments.

Stanines scores work as a bell-curve. It is expected that 23% of students score in the bottom 3 stanines, 46% in the middle three and 23% in the top three. The tables below demonstrate that our students are performing well above the expected bell curve in the PAT Reading and PAT Maths assessments.
