Performing Arts

It is certainly a privilege to be involved in the Performing Arts at both Junior and Senior level.

Our Junior School students filmed Annie JR. a few weeks ago and families will be looking forward to receiving a link to view this production, with much anticipation. Since this huge undertaking, Prep students have performed the Nativity play, presenting the Christmas story, which has become a tradition at Oxley Christian College. The children in Prep delivered their lines with confidence and sang with much gusto. What a blessing to be able to sit and enjoy the singing of young children! There was a new song There Were Shepherds, that received a spontaneous round of applause. In the Chapel service, prior to the performance of the Preps, the Cherub Choir led the Junior School in worship with Joy to the World and the Seraphim Choir performed We Bring You Praise. The Final Assembly for the Junior School featured the Junior School Orchestra, playing the National Anthem (complete with timpani) and Vivaldi’s Spring from the larger work, The Four Seasons. The choirs combined to present Little Wheel A-Turnin’ and Thankful, the final song in tribute to the leadership of Mrs Gaiser.

The Senior School ensembles have also been very busy, undergoing intensive rehearsals for the performances in the final weeks. Two Gala Concerts featured many ensembles and farewelled our Year 12 musicians. There were many highlights, including Camerata’s sparkling presentation of the finale of Martucci’s Piano Quintet in C Major, Op. 45, the Senior Choir’s driving rendition of Into the Unknown, the joyous singing of the Vocal Ensemble in Hosanna (Blessed is He), and the presentation of selections from Les Miserables by the Senior Orchestra. The Senior Choir concluded both concerts with an emotional version of The Blessing. We sincerely thank the Year 12 musicians for their many years of service to the College through the various ensembles and trust that they have enjoyed sharing their musical gifts with us. We certainly pray a blessing upon them as they continue their journey and hope that they will keep enjoying their music making.

Camerata and the Vocal Ensemble each presented a solo piece for Presentation Evening and combined for the most beautiful work, Still (A Hymn for Peace). What a blessing our musicians are to Oxley Christian College. A most sincere thank you to every one of you.
