Primary

From the Primary Office

It is with great disbelief that I start this final newsletter for the 2021 school year. It doesn’t feel that long ago that I was welcomed into the Primary School community by students, parents and staff. Taking on this exciting role at the start of the year was paired with some anxiety, lots of excitement and hope. Reflecting on my first year as Head of Primary at Moama Anglican Grammar, I could not be happier with how this move and change has turned out. I could not speak more highly of the staff at our school. Their dedication to their students, professionalism towards parents and peers and their passion for the school is something that should not be taken for granted. Their ability to adapt to new visions, initiatives and overall changes in the Primary School is greatly appreciated and I would like to acknowledge and thank them all for their support this last year. Whilst we have another two busy weeks ahead of us as is evident by all the information below, I am very excited at what lays ahead for our school community in 2022 and beyond.

Year 5 Leadership Speeches

On Friday 26 November, the nominated Year 5 students completed the daunting task of presenting their leadership speech in front of their peers. The students should be congratulated on the way they confidently conducted themselves. The students were well-prepared and it was evident that students had put a lot of thought into their speeches. The 2022 Year 6 leadership group will be announced at the Year 5/6 presentation assembly on Monday 6 December. The students will be introduced to the school community early next year at the Commencement Assembly where they conduct their School leadership Pledge.

Year 5 Production Dragon Days

After postponing the production twice already this year and having to nearly cancel due to the closure of the school for the last two weeks, we are very pleased to announce that the Year 5 production is going ahead. We would like to thank everyone involved for supporting us in rearranging their activities to allow our Year 5 students to perform Dragon Days on Monday 29 November. The performance will be filmed and shared with families early in the 2022 year. Good luck everyone!

Christmas Carols

It is that time of year when we start to prepare for the festive season. All Primary students have been working hard at rehearsing their class performance for the annual Primary Christmas concert on Wednesday 1 December. All students are asked to attend school in their Christmas outfit on this day and wear suitable shoes, which allows them to participate in their normal classes. To ensure consistency, more specific costume instructions for specific classes or year levels are listed below.

Year 1 Circus Day

The Year 1 students have been learning about the Circus during their integrated lessons this term. To celebrate the amazing work the students have completed, the annual Circus Day has been scheduled for Thursday 2 December. On this day, students in Year 1 will be able to attend school in their favourite circus character. We look forward to seeing the lions, ring masters, elephants, clowns and/or acrobats making an appearance!

Year 6 Graduation Dinner

On Thursday 2 December, we look forward to celebrating our Year 6 Graduation from Primary School. This special event will take place at the Rich River Golf Club, in the Tatalia Room. Students and their families will arrive just before 7:00 pm and have the opportunity to have some important family photos taken. Our evening starts at 7:00 pm and we will enjoy a lovely 2 course meal before the formal student presentations. The night is scheduled to finish at 9:30 pm.

Presentation Assemblies

To continue to limit risks and exposure to COVID, the School has made the decision to have the students from Kinder to Year 4 attend a formal assembly in their Stage on Friday 3 December. Unfortunately, parents are unable to attend these assemblies and therefore they will be livestreamed on the day and the videos will be available to families after the events.

Students in Years 5 and 6 will attend the planned Presentation Assembly on Monday 6 December. This assembly will be livestreamed for parents to view. These formal assemblies, are a great opportunity to celebrate students’ achievements. All award recipients will be featured in our special newsletter in the final week of school.

Livestream links will be emailed to families next week.

Orientation Day

All current and new students at Moama Anglican Grammar are involved in an Orientation Day on Tuesday 7 December. On this day, students will step up into their 2022 class with their 2022 peers and classroom teacher. This day is an integral part of the preparation for the 2022 academic year and staff plan for an enjoyable and informative day with lots of ‘getting to know you’ activities. This will allow for new students to build connections with their peers and ease any anxieties they may have about changing year levels or schools.

Students are asked to wear comfortable casual clothes for the day and to start the day in their normal classroom. End of day arrangements remain the same as usual.

Veolia Future Resources Program

Students from 4P, KR & 3Z participated in the 2021 Future Resources program during Term 3 & 4. It was a 6-week education program where students learnt about waste and recycling. Students in 4P were set the challenge of coming up with a “Pitch” to reduce and target food waste here at MAGS to win $2,500 worth of services from Veolia. The judging criteria were: Creativity, Innovation and Presentation. Our pitch was called “We Can Sort It Out” and was worked on by students from 4P.

We Can Sort It Out is an initiative which sorts food waste from the general rubbish to add to our compost bins, encouraging rubbish free lunch boxes and reuses the food scraps to feed our chooks onsite at MAGS. During Term 4 the “We Can Sort It Out” pitch video was submitted for judging and shared with all classes K-6 during our Community Studies hour creating a great opportunity for Grade 4 students to teach their peers about reducing waste. Our judged pitch score was 46 points out of 60 points, sadly not enough for us to take out the first prize. I would like to thank the following students for their hard work to film and produce a fantastic entry: Jesse.N, Teagan.M, Lachlan.N, Olive.R, Matilda.S, Harvey.VH, Jasmine.C, Jack.W, Hunter.C, Lila.C, Nixon.P
