Horse Riding Camp

Merrijig, Victoria

On Monday 4th December, some of our students from Years 7-11 travelled to Merrijig at the base of Mount Stirling for a horse-riding camp organised by Mrs Ham. Our students who enjoy horse riding outside of school were lucky to be provided with such a great opportunity for an amazing experience riding in the Victorian High Country. Bruce and Debra from McCormack’s Mountain Valley Trail Rides, whose family have been living on the land for eight generations, ran the horse-riding camp and took our students to locations from the film set of “The Man From Snowy River”.

Our students stayed at Buttercup Hut in an isolated and secluded spot of Merrijig without electricity or Internet. It was a serene experience for our students, waking up to kookaburras laughing each morning, spending starlit nights around the campfire and riding alongside views of Mount Buller. One of our teachers at Beaufort Secondary College, Mr Green, was lucky enough to ride a horse for the first time, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Mr Schier also joined in on the rides during a trip up for the day. The camp was such a success that Mrs Ham hopes to make it into a yearly event.
