Blue Edge Taster Session

It was a long time coming, but at the final hour we were able to run a taster session for our students enrolled in the Blue Edge Program. The program is facilitated by the local police, Gill Morgan and Brendan Vann, in collaboration with Beaufort Secondary College. It aims to build positive connections between students and community, in particular the local police.

The taster session that was run on Friday 26th November gave our students the chance to get to know Gill and Brendan and see what the program will be like, following a similar schedule - physical training session, workshop and healthy shared lunch. Students who participated in the taster session enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to starting the 16 week program in 2022. We hope to offer more students this opportunity later in 2022.

KIOSC

Earlier in 2021, a group of Year 7 and 8 students were identified through a variety of testing programs to have high ability in Maths and/or English. Some of these students engaged with a virtual school to complete extension work. In Term 4, we explored some other extension opportunities and decided on trialling a project-based program.

Six eager students; Errol Hammond, Ella Kerr, Tucker Stewart, Lachlan Fraser, Tom Lyons and Zarie Tiley enrolled in a Forensic Investigation Program. Over the last two weeks they have been working along with Mrs Kerr, to gather evidence and clues, learn about analysis techniques and attempt to solve a crime.

This experience required teamwork, critical thinking, logic and organisation from all involved to solve the crime, while also having some fun. On Friday 3rd December our KIOSC students had their final reveal and found out whether their collective deductive skills led them to the true perpetrator of the crime.
