A Brief Introduction

A Brief Introduction Letter

Andrea Karanikolaou, Plenty Campus, Year 11 with snippets from The Ivy Voice Team

Hello Readers! I would firstly like to say welcome to The Ivy Voice. A student-run newsletter for the betterment of knowledge of the going-ons of the school. The following is a short, introductory paragraph on the howsits and whatnows of Ivanhoe’s very own and very new, newspaper.

This entire process began when creators, Harriet Thorpe and Emilie McKenna aimed to create an ongoing, enjoyable project that they could cultivate and improve over the years with the added bonus of doing it as their CAS Project for IB. After many late nights, brainstorming and planning, the two came up with the idea of The Ivy Voice! A digital newspaper dedicated to informing you, dear readers, just what is going on around the school.

Aided by multiple kids from our school’s three campuses, in many different year levels, The Ivy Voice will include a variety of content, from interviews, to recent events, art, to school advertisements and many more subjects, all compiled by The Ivy Voice team. Articles published will deliver news relevant to all three campuses, naturally. If you have an inquiry, want to propose an article, or even want to join this project, feel free to talk to or contact anyone involved with the project.

Now, I bet you are all wondering just who exactly, is currently involved in this issue of The Ivy Voice. Wonder no more! All writers, editors and content creators are listed below:

Harriet: Hi all, firstly, I would like to say welcome to The Ivy Voice. When Emilie came to me with the idea of a student newspaper representing the voice of Ivanhoe Grammar School students, I immediately thought it was fantastic and quite honestly, was confused at how no one had pursued it earlier. My response? “Let’s start write away!” Hope you enjoy!

Emilie: Hello, I am in Year 11 at the Ridgeway Campus. After starting our first year in IB, Harriet and I found ourselves needing to come up with a project to use for our CAS, which was both rewarding and enjoyable, and stumbled upon the idea of a student-led newspaper. We are so excited to be able to share this project with everyone and we hope you will get involved in one way or another!

Frank: Hello readers, I'm Frank Bevacqua. I’m a Year 11 student at the Plenty Campus. Commencing in Year 6 at Ivanhoe Grammar, I've thrown myself into the many facets of school life. I see The Ivy Voice as the perfect platform to discuss all of these many aspects of Ivanhoe life. I look forward to writing articles about cadet life, music lessons, ensembles and events, the performing arts and school musicals, sports, overseas and local service trips/opportunities, debating… the works. I hope you enjoy reading!

James: I’m James and in Year 11 at Plenty Campus. To be honest, I’ve never really done anything like The Ivy Voice before, but when Frank asked me to participate, I thought I might as well give it a go. I participate in a variety of school activities that I look forward to discussing with you all. So now that I’m here I might as well give this a red-hot crack. Why not? Happy reading and good luck!

YNWA…

Avriel: When Emilie and Harriet invited me to contribute an article for the first-ever edition of The Ivy Voice, I was thrilled to help make their brilliant idea a reality. I’m Avriel Das from the Year 9 University Campus. What do I say in a short summary about me? I had a list, but I realised in my first (of hopefully other) articles for The Ivy Voice, my writing perhaps would do the talking. That said, I do love travelling and co-curricular at school – orchestra, ensembles and debating are my favourites. Oh yeah, and soccer too! With that said, I hope you enjoy the first edition of The Ivy Voice :)

Luke: My name is Luke Brian McAlister. I am a student from Ivanhoe’s Plenty Campus, presently in Year 10. I am by nature, obsession, and inclination a writer, and am keen to contribute thoroughly to the school community in whatever way I might. I hope that you may find some enjoyment and comfort in the words and works of our inspired team, and that The Ivy Voice may afford renewed camaraderie between our campuses. This is what I wish we may greatly expand upon for a long time to come together. My sincere thanks and warmest welcome to you all, and my courteous gratitude for this opportunity.

Ella: Hello, my name is Ella Ray and I am currently in Year 10 at The Ridgeway Campus. I’m very passionate about music and the performing arts, as well as history and politics. I am also an avid writer, and as such I am delighted to have the opportunity to work on this newspaper.

Christian: My name is Christian Arnel and I am a current Year 10 student at The Ridgeway Campus. For this edition of the student newsletter, I have written a section detailing my experiences with co-curricular activities during isolation. For a slight get-to-know-me, I enjoy anything and everything relating to psychology and science as well as the arts (music and the performing arts). In the future, I am looking forward to writing articles about all aspect of school life and getting to work on such a great project with other like-minded individuals! As with everyone in the writing, editing and creative team, I hope that you enjoy reading this edition!

Andrea: To conclude the people involved, I am a Year 11 at Plenty Campus. Eager to do anything extracurricular, except maybe anything music-related, I jumped at the chance to join this school-wide project. I dabble in art, writing, theatre and the act of stressing over upcoming assignments. I hope everyone enjoys The Ivy Voice.

Adieu,

Andrea Karanikolaou
