RECONCILIATION PRAYER

Our prayer journey this week invites us to walk with Jesus as people of reconciliation. When we work to reconcile we are restoring relationships and bringing harmony to them.

Mary MacKillop, founder of the Josephites in Australia, knew the struggle of personal hurt and the challenge of letting this go. Through it all she maintained her deep faith and her vision and mission.  The journey to reconciliation always involves a letting go – and an openness to new relationships – with yourself, with God, with others.

In his life, Jesus reached out a hand to people who were shunned, in pain and isolated. When we do this too we are walking the path of reconciliation.  Here in Australia, the theme of reconciliation is always prominent.

God of friendship and forgiveness,

You lead us on life’s journey

As we gather here in Your name,

Open our minds to know Your voice.

Open our hands to do Your work.

And open our hearts to hold Your Spirit.

We  Pray

As we go about our day O God,

As we strive to walk with Jesus,

Remind us that we are the face of Christ,

Who is with us always.

May your grace, mercy and peace,

Bless us, keep us and transform us all,

This day, now and forever.

Amen

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Reconciliation week will finish tomorrow on the anniversary of Mabo day. The 2021 National Reconciliation Week theme, More than a word. Reconciliation takes action, urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action. Last Monday the boys were privileged to have a full school Reconciliation Assembly with the men from The Glen on the Central Coast. I trust that this was a thought-provoking experience. This could be used for a great dinner table conversation.

STANDARDISED ASSESSMENTS

We have two standardised tests that the boys will be doing before the end of term which will give us further information we can use to improve the education of your son.

In Weeks 7 & 8 the boys will complete an online PAT Adaptive Reading and a PAT Adaptive Maths Assessment. Computer adaptive testing offers a more precise picture of what a student knows and can do in a learning area. The results are highly personalised test pathways tailored to individual learners, and highly accurate data about their capabilities. Adaptive testing also brings an opportunity to explore results in different ways, and to diagnose student needs more precisely.

In Week 9 the boys will do the English Reach Assessment. Year 5 on Tuesday [15 June] and Year 6 on Wednesday [16 June]. Reach is the cornerstone of assessments by ICAS which provides us with diagnostic data.

REPORTING AND PARENT INTERVIEWS

Please see the attached letter on how to book for a parent/teacher/student interview.  It is expected that your son will also be present for the interview.

Parent/Teachers/Student meetings will be conducted ONLINE on:  Friday  18 June from  8.00 am to 5.30 pm. The meetings will run for 8 minutes.

Bookings for meetings will:

Open:       Sunday evening 6 June at 7.00 pm

Close:       Wednesday lunchtime 16 June at 12.00 pm (Noon)

Please note the following:

  • Meetings with Class Teachers are the priority.
  • Avoid multiple bookings with the same teacher, e.g. If the Mathematics Teacher also has your son for Literacy please make only one booking. If more time is needed, a follow up meeting can be arranged.
  • Please do not make bookings with specialist teachers (ie: Mandarin, Computers, PE, Art and Music). Instead, please contact them by email for a follow up discussion.

AFL

It was perfect AFL weather on Saturday morning and the Sherrins looked ripe for the kicking. With a few late scratchings and no reserves, we were able to scrap the usual planned rotations and give each of the SPX players a full game.

The strong Waverley team jumped out of the gates and quickly racked up the tally marks on the score sheet. Our boys tried hard and never gave in, but sometimes you come up against a red-hot team and it just wasn’t our day.

Despite the lop-sided score sheet, I was really proud of our boys for hanging in there until the end. Sam Bewley was a stand-out for us, leading by example for the entire game. In the final quarter, we rallied in attack to set up Nate Ho and Luke McCarry with some point-scoring opportunities. It was also great to see hard-man Nick Yastreboff suffocating and stifling Waverley’s attack with a few bone crunching tackles.

A special mention also goes to Ollie Sudbury. Ollie suffered an injury which ruled him out of the game, yet he still turned up in his SPX gear to cheer on his teammates and help with some of the game-day duties. Ollie’s example showed true teamwork and leadership.

Luckily in footy, “there’s always next week!”

Round 6 Results and Round 7 Fixtures

Winter arrived a week early, but all teams showed plenty of spirit and passion in the blue and gold jersey. Another tough round of competition. Well done to our Prep E’s who got up 6 – 5 in an 11-goal thriller and our 11 Fs for their 11 goals.

Please note, this is our last round of games until 17 July which is the first Saturday after the holidays.

FIND YOUR BOOK WEEK PARADE COSTUME

Get ready, Term Three is almost upon us, Book Week is coming!!!! (21 - 27 August, 2021) You have two choices when it comes to your Book Week Parade costume – wing it at the last moment and hope for the best, or plan weeks (or months) in advance and win ‘Most Awesome-est Book Week Costume Ever’ award. My suggestion is… go for the latter.

Some ideas to help you are:

  • Read as many books as you can get your hands on.
  • Make a list of your favourite characters.
  • Gather your supplies and do a costume run-through to make sure it all works.
  • If you’re struggling for ideas, the CBCA has partnered exclusively with Spotlight for costume parade inspiration, so you could check out their site and DIY suggestions.

Below are some photos of last year’s inspirational awesome winners.

Mrs Martin’s Book Trail

Go The Distance by Jen Calonita. What if Meg had to become a God? After Hercules proves he’s a true hero and regains his godship, all seems right in the world. That is, until Zeus tells Meg that she can’t be with Hercules because she’s, well, mortal. Luckily, Hera has a solution, offering Meg a chance to prove herself worthy of a spot-on Mt Olympus - as a god. All Meg has to do is complete a mysterious quest. Lovers of Hercules and the Disney twisted tales will enjoy this one. #mrsmartinsbooktrail2021
