Reconciliation Ceremony

Reconciliation Week was marked here at St Pius X College with a ceremony that was both educational and entertaining for all present. As an EREA school, we are called to be ambassadors for Reconciliation, ready to work for improved relationships between Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal Australians. It is most imperative that we acknowledge the wrong doings of the past, where treatment of Aboriginal Australians was marked by prejudice and discrimination. Our efforts today are to build a culture of mutual respect and understanding – a culture that will only come about by having an informed generation, ready to work towards a better future. Therefore to achieve this end, the College invited guests Mr Phillip Good and dancers from The Glen Centre on the Central Coast to share their experiences and provide experiences designed to educate.

The students heard about the meaning behind an acknowledgement of country and about how “countries” of the past would share land, resources and knowledge. The Glen Centre dancers explained how through dance ideas and information of creation were passed down to younger generations.

The rich learning experience included opportunities for students and our Acting Principal Mr Mark Casey to participate in dance and to be ochred as a sign of willingness to listen and respect.

We thank our guests for their input and look forward to our continued relationship with The Glen Centre, especially for our Year 10 Immersion Program in November where we hope to send students to visit and participate in such a positive environment.

Chapel Mass

A special thanks to Mr Brannan’s Year 9 RE class for hosting Monday’s Chapel Mass. Fr Joseph Frez, Assistant Parish Priest at OLD Parish celebrated his first St Pius X College eucharistic celebration. The Mass not only provided the opportunity to mark Reconciliation Week, but to also reflect upon the humility of Mary at the Visitation. We are called to mirror this humility in our daily lives.

We thank Year 9 the following students: Pat Frost who played guitar;  Readers, Tom Roche, Chris Mander, Quinton Crispe, Nick Brown, Asher Ghannoum, Reef Farias, Joe Cooper, Liam Hartley, and Year 11 Minister of the Eucharist Justin Park and Year 12 Mission and Identity Prefect Luka Krizan as well as Mr di Sano who supported the Mass.

SPX Winter Appeal: Supporting St Vincent de Paul and Jesuit Refugee Services

This week marks the start of our annual SPX Winter Appeal, with the College collecting goods for St Vincent de Paul and Jesuit Refugee Services. In this difficult time, those in need have found themselves pushed further onto the fringes of society, with many volunteer organisations not able to cater for those who are less fortunate. Students are encouraged to consider the plight of those around us, and to act by 'giving to the poor in handfuls'.

Driven by Year 9, the Appeal will run from Monday, 24 May until Thursday, 10 June (Week 8, Day 4). Student volunteers will be collecting goods during Homeroom. We are in need of the following items:

Thank you in anticipation of your generosity.
