Sports Report

GD Cross Country

A full report will appear from captain Grace Austin in this edition of the newsletter; however, it certainly was a great day for the school on Monday as we created history by winning the Glenelg Division Cross Country. This meant that it was only the second time in the school’s and GSSSA and Glenelg Division History (dating back since 1959) that we have won the GSSSA/GD Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country in the same year! The first was back in 2012.

A fantastic achievement from our most committed and talented students who always represent the school with pride and 100% effort for themselves and the school. Their impeccable behaviour and social skills also make them stand out from the crowd.

Thanks also to all staff, coaches, captains, volunteers and parents who develop their abilities, help organise, support and encourage these students to do their best.

Swimming

For only the second time, our elite swimmers had the opportunity to compete in the “Victorian All Schools Swimming Associations Carnival” as part of the ICCES Association team. This event was held at MSAC on Monday night and swimmers from all the best sporting associations across Victoria were competing. Results are still to be published; however, I know that our students represented themselves, our school and the association extremely well and were more than competitive. Congratulations to the following students - Lachlan Rees, Gabe Marshall, Luke Marshall, Isaac Shaw and Zoe Addinsall.

Football

Football seasons across the district are now in full swing and we have had many of our students doing extremely well for their community clubs. Boys Football Captain, Magnus Howells, has played every game in the strong Hampden League for the Hamilton Kangaroos senior side and committed himself well. We have many other boys playing Under 18, 16 and 14 football for the Kangaroos and with all sides currently undefeated, they are playing great football. Some of our younger students have also made their senior debuts for their clubs which is a big achievement.

Our girls are also doing well for the Kangaroos Youth Womens’ Team, including Annabel Hetherington who kicked an amazing nine goals on Sunday! Our Girls Football Captain, Mitzi Adamson, has been playing for the GWV Rebels side and unfortunately, they were defeated in the semi final on the weekend. Mitzi has had some great experiences including travelling interstate to play which will hold her in good stead for the future as she moves into the senior ranks.

School football also kicks off next week with our First 18 playing in the Herald Sun Country Cup competition at Pedrina Park against the other bigger local schools. The Year 9 and 10 team will play in their annual round robin in early June.

ICCES Athletics

The ICCES Athletics Carnival will be held next Thursday at Albert Park Lakeside stadium in Melbourne. Our athletes have been training hard with coach Rohan Garfoot at training sessions held at lunchtime and I am positive those students attending will reap the awards with their personal best performances. A full report will appear in a future newsletter edition.

GD Cross Country Report

Despite the wet conditions on Monday, it was a great day for College as our athletic Cross Country runners sealed the deal and took home a clean sweep for the GD trifector after previously winning GD Athletics and GD Swimming. At the annual Glenelg Division Cross Country, College placed first in the Female Aggregate (273 points), the Male Aggregate (307 points) and the Overall Aggregate with 580 points. Congratulations to all those that competed on the day as it was our strong contribution across all age groups that cemented our success.

Special mention to Max Green, Fergus Roberts, Ben Potter, Tobe Adamson, Jack Austin, Luca Wagner, Jock Nichols, Jack Sobey, Jude Alexander, Mitzi Adamson, Poppy Austin, Lucy Roberts, Sarah Anderson, Elsie Adams, Ava Mould and Lucy Fraser who were all placegetters and ran especially well with great determination. Additionally, a massive thank you to Mr Alexander, Mrs Williams, Ms Jess Beattie and Mr Monk for their contribution to improving and helping out the team on the day and prior with training. Well done and thank you to all competitors on your amazing efforts, you should all be very proud.

Girl's Hockey Report

The Division One Women continued their very promising start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Dunkeld. Gracie Austin scored both goals for College. The new members of the side have quickly adjusted to the pace of A Grade with Milly Howells, Ash McNaughton, Olivia Read and Rosie Dopheide all having an impact. Captain, Chloe Russell continues to dominate and Alyssa Hocking is playing her best hockey yet!

The B Grade Scorchers hit the lead early in their game against Coleraine, with Millie Davidson scoring a great goal after a flurry of play in the circle. Unfortunately the girls could not hold on in the second half going down 2-1. India Ross, Jemima Bishop Mowatt and Milly Davidson were all amongst the better players.
