Myrniong - ELC to Yr6

Week 4 Assembly Theme

In Monday’s Junior School Assembly, we focused on the College value of Respect.  We used an episode of the ABC series ‘Bluey’ to see what respect looks like for children.

Respect is about caring whether our words and actions have a harmful effect on other people, and seriously taking them into account before acting.

Self-respect means you feel good about who you are, the types of choices you make, and the impact you have on others.  It is important for kids to be encouraged towards self-respect and recognising their unique value to the world so that they will take care of themselves and be enthusiastic about contributing in a positive manner.  Disrespect usually comes from a place of hurt as a response of anger.  It is important to practise remaining calm and mindful of others’ feelings even when we have been wronged, so that we can work effectively towards the source of conflict.

Years 3 and 5 NAPLAN Testing

NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.  The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.  The 2021 assessments commenced on Tuesday with our Years 3 and 5 students sitting the writing paper.  With the exception of the Year 3 writing paper, all testing is online.  I have been impressed with the manner in which our Junior School students have conducted themselves during the NAPLAN testing period.  Whilst improvement in cohort performance is important, our main focus is the relative growth of each student.  Results for the 2021 NAPLAN assessments will be available to parents and schools in Term Three.

Open Classrooms - Thursday 20th May

A reminder that our Prep to Year 6 classrooms will be open for our parents to visit next Thursday, 20th May at 10.00am. We have decided to bump our Piccino time forward to 9.00 am, as some parents may wish to visit both the Early Learning Centre and the Junior School.  Parents are reminded they need to inform the Junior School office of their attendance prior to next Thursday, as density limits exist when we have visitors. QR codes must be used at the front of Myrniong or at the reception desk.

Class and House Assemblies

COVID-19 density limits have meant our Junior School Class and House Assemblies will take place in the Simons’ Auditorium at the Senior Campus.  This term we have the following opportunities for parents to attend.

  • Week 7 (Monday 31 May) - Year Five Assembly at 12.20 pm
  • Week 8 (Monday 7 June) - Learmonth House Service at 12.20 pm
