Dear Families,
While the Covid lock down continues, the great bulk of students in the junior school remain committed to making the most of the online learning process. I am very grateful to families for assisting students to participate in classes, and to the students themselves for showing great resolve in challenging circumstances. We are also grateful for the professionalism of our staff in maintaining an engaging presence online, and for also keeping an eye of the wellbeing of students. As all would be aware from Mr Jewell’s communications, 100 per cent of timetabled classes for year 7 are online, maintaining a strong engagement with our new students in transition to high school. Year 8 to 10 students have 50 percent of their classes represented online, and other arrangements for completion of tasks are maintained by teachers. At year 7 and 8, teachers run a given class for 20 to 30 minutes, providing students with the remainder of the time to ask questions, or to go on with their work in an environment supported by the teacher. We hope that we soon will be back together again at the college.
I want to provide some important advice to families regarding carparking at the college at drop off and pick up times. Staff car parks on Lalor grounds are solely for the use of teaching staff. There is no room in any of the carparks, be they Dalton Road or David Street, for sitting on-site to collect children. This practice places students – and adults also – in extreme danger. We have witnessed and had reported many instances of ‘close calls’ where students are moving between parked and transitory vehicles where visibility is poor and parents continue to drive past students at close range as students attempt to enter vehicles. Car parks passageways must be kept clear at all times and students must not be encouraged to enter carparks by their families. Delivery vehicles also use carpark lanes, further adding to the danger. We hope to see this practice stop completely in the interests of safety.
Again I wish our community the very best during the remainder of the lock down. Remember, should any member of our learning community seek support, please reach out to your relevant sub-school, or to our college wellbeing team. We Assistant Principals are available for a conversation, as is Mr Jewell, our College Principal.
See you all soon.
Timothy Cottrell.
